The $161,547 New York Breeders’ Futurity at Finger Lakes Gaming & Racetrack saw Ice Wine Stable’s Whatchatalkinabout easily run down his competition over six furlongs on the sloppy (sealed) main track Oct. 16.
The juvenile Dialed In gelding with Joel Rosario up jumped out of the gate and held steady while five wide as a quarter went in :22.52, coming up the middle at the half in :46.30, dominating by the 5/8 pole in :59.01, widening their margin by 3 3/4 lengths to finish in 1:11.92.
Order of finish: Wesley Ward trainee Whatchatalkinabout ($5.40), Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners and Repole Stable’s Trust Fund ($4.40), Mike Maker’s Mischief Joke ($3.30) went four wide in the turn continuing to gain ground, second favorite Tall Paul set the pace until challenged mid bend, Unicorn Cake traveled four wide and weakened, jostled at the start Yo Banana Boy tired around the turn, and Hal Away tired early.
