The BZ4X, Toyota’s first mass-produced global EV, is being recalled because of the risk that the wheels could loosen and come off the vehicle. The recall applies to the Subaru Solterra as well as, according to a report from Reuters on Wednesday.
Japan’s safety agency says a sharp turn or brake can loosen the wheel pin, causing the wheel to break freely. No injuries have been identified as caused by the fault in Japan, the home of the two automakers.
The recall includes 2,700 BZ4X and 2,600 Solterra models. The majority of those cars are destined for the European markets, and only 280 units BZ4Xs was shipped to the US and Canada.
