Middleweight teenager Tony Harrison appeared on Showtime’s PBC card Saturday night as hometown runner Detroit 28-3-1 beat Sergio Garcia 33-1 in the scheduled 10th round. The last time Harrison entered the ring was almost a year earlier, when he fought Bryant Perrella in a draw. Garcia’s previous fight was a loss to UD at the gloved hand of Sebastian Fondura in December 2021. His match against Harrison on Saturday was for the silver WBC super heavyweight title.

Harrison put his shot to good use the first time around. Garcia was able to put his man on the rope in the second while the accuracy of Harrison’s stab was still impressive. The third part shows that Garcia can make Harrison a little more muscular. Harrison’s super punch told the story in the fourth season. By the fifth installment, it was clear that Garcia was trying his best, but simply could not achieve great effect. Harrison continued to land well while fighting defensively into the sixth round.

Things worked out in season seven, with Garcia stepping up the action and Harrison making better punches. The eighth round gave one pause because of how difficult Garcia must have been for putting in so many clean punches while never seeming to run out of energy. Although Garcia continued to move forward in the ninth inning, it was clear that he was being beaten. However, he continued to apply the same strategy he had in the previous eight rounds. The tenth and final round went to Harrison again, although it’s probably worth wondering why he couldn’t take out Garcia before the final bell rang.

It’s no surprise that Harrison walked out of the ring with a decisive victory new to his résumé.
