It’s been a while since last time Deltarune updated and now creator Toby Fox (who is also known for Undertale) has sent out the “Spring 2024” newsletter, detailing the latest progress.
Word tracking Chapter 3, the latest news is that development on Chapter 4 is “progressing better than ever”. He’s hired “a few more people” to help, and the team is on track to meet internal deadlines:
Toby Fox: “The Chapter 4 development is going better than ever. We are on track to meet our internal deadlines. The new hires have made a big difference to improving the atmosphere and the feeling of this chapter. I’m really feeling good about this, champ.”
In terms of what’s left to do: there are some cutscenes that need polishing, the fights are “technically complete” but the flow needs to be improved for the boss fights, the overworld still needs “about 10 maps”, and then the gimmicks (with one complex one and all its iterations almost done).
Fox hopes at least some team members will move on to Chapter 5 in the next email update. As for the release date, this cannot yet be “discussed” but may still be “quite far away”.
