Backlog Club: Week Zero, May – Time to play Earthbound

Backlog Club Earthbound

Backlog Club rule number one: Work through your pile of unplayed video games one at a time and discuss them with others. Backlog Club Rule #2: Don’t Talk About Backlog Clubs.

Just kidding! Tell everyone. Satisfying.

Hello again and welcome back Backlog Club, our new and experimental feature forced us to start learning “Pile of Shame” – the games we haven’t played or finished yet. It works like a Book Club, in that we’ll all be playing the same game every month (voted by you!) And then we’ll get together to talk about it – once on the landmark two weeks, and again at the end of the month. Fun!

Last month’s game was Slay The Spirewhich you can read about if you want to catch:

But this month’s game, thanks to last month’s vote, is Earthboundbeat Undertale and Moon with 50% you vote for it.

Admittedly I played a bit of Earthbound. But this will give me the push that I need to actually finish it

Earthbound is a strange, unique, and unparalleled game, originally released on the SNES in 1994 (Japan) and 1995 (North America). It has a devoted fan base, but remains a most beloved series, with a popular Japan-only sequel. Mother 3 Probably one of the most desired Western releases in Nintendo game history.

However, Earthbound itself is quite widely available and details the adventures of Ness (a boy you can name yourself) and his group of friends as they attempt to defeat Giygas, Travel through a strange and wonderful world full of quirks, monsters, and problems to solve.

Your best bet for playing Earthbound (if you don’t already own it) is the Nintendo Switch Online service, which you can only get this month if you want. It only costs $3.99 for a month, and you can play Earthbound as much as you want.

Absolute chaos.

Next month’s game

Good news: You can choose which game we’ll be playing in June – from a shortlist decided by me, or else we’ll all never agree on something. All in all, I like to pick a game that’s easily available and, if possible, free, including those on Xbox Game Pass and PlayStation Plus, as well as the Nintendo Switch Online service, so everyone can Join without spending a lot of money. Also, it’s great to use extra from your subscriptions!

Last month, the games I picked up (Undertale, Moon, and Earthbound) all had a lot in common – they were all RPGs with their oddities and all involved Toby Fox, the creator of Undertale, who bears the brunt of it. great influence of Moon and Earthbound.

This month, the theme is “stylish adventure stories with murder mysteries at heart,” because I’m a fan of a good detective. But which one would it be?

Let us know what you think about the games above and on playing Earthbound – is this your first time or will you replay it so you can join the fun? Backlog Club welcomes you all!
