This is my battle for the world title

Michael McKinson sees Saturday’s game against Vergil Ortiz Jr as his own battle for the world championship.

The British Welterweight will face highly regarded world champion contenders, live on DAZN, at Dickies Arena, Fort Worth with a life-changing opportunity at stake.

McKinson entered as a huge 8/1 loser compared to 1/20 favorites but told Ade Oladipo that he had earned the right to go up against someone of Ortiz’s stature..

“I deserve to fight Vergil Ortiz.”

“The weird thing is that I was at the end, where I was struggling to sell tickets to do four, six rounds at the start of my career, not getting paid to fight, where I am now. What a surreal, journey I’ve been on.”

“I always knew I was good enough. I have always believed in my hard work. It took a while to get where I am compared to most people, but I deserve it. I’m not shocked.”

Ortiz Jr v McKinson on Saturday night was a rescheduled match after being postponed in March due to the United States suffers from health complications.

McKinson still fights on the March 19 show and replaces late Alex Martin, who was duly beaten by more than 10 innings.

Five months passed and Portsmouth southpaw believed Ortiz would face another animal on Saturday night.

“They should have me in March.”

“I am a completely different fighter. I have grown much more, there have been a lot of improvements made”.

“Overall, I had six months to prepare for Vergil Ortiz. I am happy, I am confident, I am well prepared. This is my world title.”
