Wyndham Championship 2022 leaderboard: John Huh leads after Round 1 as big names drop out of top 125 FedEx Cup

A lot of movement was on the FedEx Cup front in the first round of Thursday’s Wyndham Championship. John Huh is your leader, and if he continues to win this weekend, he’ll jump from outside the top 110 into the top 140 to join FedEx St. Jude Invitational next week at TPC Southwind.

It wasn’t the most significant jump though several golfers have moved from outside the all-important top 125 into its own, which means two more – including a Ryder Cup entrant – could fall outside the top 125 and miss the first playoff event next week.

We’ll take a look at all of that as well as who is challenging for the lead and who has the best position on the odds to make the next 54 holes at Sedgefield Country Club.

T1. John Huh (-9): Huh shot one of the great spins of his life on Thursday. Not only is he 3 strokes ahead of everyone except Sungjae Im, but he’s also in the top 10 in the field at his approach shots, from tee to green and with his putt. He hit 17 of the 18 regulatory greens, made himself 9 birdies inside 12 feet (and made a 38-foot eagle putt), made those 7 birdies and eagles and now stands to check out what will be his second top 10 on the PGA Tour since 2018 (Huh also finished in the top 10 at the Honda Classic earlier this season). After that, he really didn’t seem too confident about going into Round 2.

“I was really surprised that I was at the top of the charts, yes, to be honest with you,” Huh said. “I didn’t really feel my game was there, but it was one of those days where I took advantage of some good shots and good saves, I think.”

A rarity in the tour

Horschel sits where he started the tournament 20-1 after shooting 3 under 67 on Thursday in the first round. Im is a well-deserved favorite because of how great he played in Minnesota and how talented he is in the field. If I had to choose here, I would probably go further on the Austin Swomanman standings by 50-1. He hit the ball better than anyone in the league on Thursday, didn’t put any and still shot 65. He’s made four straight cuts around the world and he’s having a nice number across the board. with a 50-1 ratio. If it weren’t for the Mother, I’d probably go with Henley 22-1 after he’s 3 under 67.
