What is your favorite costume in the movie and why?
It’s even harder to decide as I live with the movie! We do Yellow in 2019 and now each outfit has its own special place in my memory and experience. It’s a really hard movie to make. We had so little time and now it’s very satisfying to see it on screen! The white pleated dress originally designed by William Travilla Seven years of itching There’s this incredible slow motion footage that really shows off all of our hard work.
That dress has been remade so many times and we’ve all seen it walk down Hollywood Boulevard, at Halloween parties, and printed on cups — that dress fluttering in the subway wind everywhere. everywhere! The modern incarnation of the dress is a bit flimsy and easy and not very special. The incredible Jose Bello used to be at Western Costume as the mastermind who created the ruffle and unraveled all that went wrong with all these reinventions. I really wanted the dress to be more roomy so it had an impressively luxurious liquid volume that could pass Ana when the wind blew!
I still can’t believe the reproduction for Some Like It Hot! When you see the side-by-side stills between our version and the original! It feels like we’re shooting — Andrew always has the original image right next to the screen. I love the silk chiffon and nude chiffon dress that Orry-Kelly originally designed. Did you know the dress has a red heart cut a bit in the back? And yes, it is included! Rory and his team at Bill Hargate have done a great job in this regard. I added padding to this dress to help add weight to Ana’s figure. That was the only time I apparated for her.
Lydia Jakubowski is our incredible full-time tailor who makes so many things, including her wedding dress and the everyday ensemble of Capri pants – those outfits are also very special. separate. Sometimes it’s the simple things that make it so much more emotionally burdensome.
