The bronze bomber is back! Deontay Wilder Rival returns and date revealed!
The highly anticipated return of former heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder (42-2-1, 41 KOs) will come on October 15 against Finnish opponent Robert Helenius (31-3, 20 KOs).
The match will take place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York and will be broadcast live on Fox PPV.
Wilder is about to lose to Tyson Fury in the 11th round by knockout took place last October.
Many wondered if that would be the last time they saw the American being given brutal nature of his last two battles against Fury. With this match, Wilder showed that his career is far from over and that he still intends to challenge for world titles in the future.
Helenius was also last seen with a Fury-Wilder III card defeating Polish heavyweight Adam Kownacki by a sixth round knockout.
The win elevated Helenius’ status in today’s heavyweight arena and was his second straight win over Kownacki, whom he beat first by knockout in the fourth round in March. 2020. A win over Wilder will bring him closer to the title that has overlooked him for his entire career.
PBC also announced that former super-middleweight champions Caleb Plant (21-1.12 KOs) and Anthony Dirrell (34-2-2.25 KOs) will clash in the co-main event. The match will act as an elimination for the WBC super middleweight belt, currently held by Canelo Alvarez.
Plant’s last fight was against Canelo last Novemberwhere he lost by knockout in round 11. In that match, Plant tried to become the undisputed champion but failed.
He plans to return in the mix and return to the winning column against Dirrell. A win for Plant is likely to see him rematch Canelo for one of the titles he lost.
Dirrell was also put on the Canelo-Plant card, where he Marcos Hernandez by a fourth round knockout. With a win over Plant, Dirrell can go on to challenge the WBC belt once again.
His first title challenge ended in a draw with Sakio Bika, whom he later defeated in a rematch before losing that belt to Badou Jack. Dirrell once again claimed the title against Avni Yildirim before losing David Benavidez.
