Stablemates Gerrymander, Good Sam Top Go for Wand
Klaravich Stable’s Gerrymander has always been considered a good horse—she was a stakes winner at 2 and a grade 2 winner of the Mother Goose Stakes at 3. However, the Into Mischief filly had not quite been able to recapture that winning form as a 4-year-old until her 25-length decimation of her sole opponent in Sunset Louise in the off-the-turf Noble Damsel Stakes Oct.8 at Aqueduct Racetrack.
Gerrymander now heads into the Big A’s Go for Wand Stakes (G3) Dec. 2 in search of her second-graded glory, with her younger stablemate Good Sam one of her biggest threats in the $200,000 race.
Trained by Chad Brown, Gerrymander gets Jose Ortiz’s services for the one-mile affair.
Good Sam, a Peter Brant-owned 3-year-old, enters the Go for Wand with improving numbers in her step up to graded stakes company. The daughter of Good Samaritan had sparkled in her first two starts last year at Aqueduct, capped by a 3 1/2-length victory in the Tempted Stakes over the mile distance. Sidelined for half of the 2023 season, Good Sam returned to the winner’s circle in her most recent outing, taking a first allowance optional claimer against older fillies and mares Oct. 4 over the Aqueduct oval. Irad Ortiz Jr rides.
Turnback the Alarm Stakes runner-up Tizzy in the Sky , trained by Todd Pletcher, and multiple stakes winner Venti Valentine , a Jorge Abreu trainee, lead the opposition.
