There are very few videos that I find as informative as behind the scenes. In this video, a Mahogany filming was done in the Swiss mountains during snowfall and rough weather. As a skier, I’m pretty well versed in how complicated snowy mountain photography can be, and can more or less see all the struggles here.
Snow is one of the difficult elements in a photo shoot. Not only is it white, but it’s also reflective, and any sunlight will make it difficult to measure, especially if you have subjects in the scene that are significantly darker. In this video, they have exactly that problem, as well as having a bright sky and a dark location. It really tests the dynamic range of your camera and so it makes a great situation for product testing.
The Nikon Z 9 is a well-respected mirrorless body at this point, and Nikon was pretty brave to shoot a behind-the-scenes video of it in some of the toughest conditions you can shoot. However, it works great and delivers some excellent results.
