Wolves coach Chris Finch injured his knee in the sideline collision


PHOENIX — Minnesota Timberwolf coach Chris Finch was brought off the field at the end of his team’s match won 122-116 via phoenix sun on Sunday night with a torn patellar tendon in his right knee after one of his players collided with him on the sideline.

The collision occurred with 1:40 left in the fourth quarter Timberwolves’ close victory to sweep the Suns in four games. Minnesota point guard Mike Conley was driving down the field and was forced out of bounds by Sun’s defender Devin Bookerthe person being called for a foul.

Conley collided with Finch, who fell holding his right knee. Finch was surrounded by Timberwolves players and staff before being helped up and off the field. The team later confirmed he suffered a ruptured patellar tendon.

Finch left the arena on a cart and did not speak to the media after the game, with assistant coach Micah Nori assuming those duties.

Nori said Finch was in the medical room getting checked out and the whole team came down to see him after the game.

“He’s obviously in good spirits and so are the guys,” Nori said.

Nori took charge for the final 1:41 of the game as the Wolves finished with relative ease.

“Everyone has their role, everyone supports each other,” Nori said. “I know this sounds corny, but it’s just the next person, even with the coaching staff.”

Earlier on Sunday, Finch was announced as the third-place vote behind winner Mark Daigneault of Oklahoma City Thunder and second place Jamahl Mosley’s Magic Orlando because NBA Coach of the Year. Finch led Minnesota to the second-most wins in franchise history.
