Dogs are often smarter than we think, and sometimes they surprise us in ways we didn’t expect. When 18-month-old Rajah was frightened by fireworks, she ran as far away from home as she could. Her family worried about her for more than seven hours, fearing that they would never find her.
However, Rajah surprised her family with a human-like act. After a crazy day of adventures, Rajah knew it was time to return home. She rang the doorbell, excitedly telling her family about her exciting discovery day.
An unexpected adventure
Ryan Washick and Mary Lynn Whitacre panic over losing Raja. The puppy was resting in the yard until he heard the scariest noise of his life. Their neighbors set off firecrackers, causing Rajah to flee. Somehow, she broke through the family fence at 5 p.m. and ran for it. Fortunately, their other dog stayed.
Rajah is a nimble dog, so she can’t be seen. Ryan and Mary Lynn have gathered friends and family to help with their search. They drove around the area and even walked more than six miles. Yet their many nights of searching were fruitless.
Mary Lynn said: “Ryan and I were terrified and we felt really helpless.
So the couple went to bed with their hearts broken. It was one of the scariest nights of their lives, but it seemed there was nothing they could do. However, after going to bed, the unthinkable happened. Someone approached their door and ring the doorbell. It’s someone who knows their home better than anyone.
Don’t underestimate the dogs
Ryan said he heard scratching the front door at around 3 a.m. Then the doorbell rang and the camera captured a dog ringing the doorbell with their nose. Rajah is home! She knew exactly what to do in this situation, which shocked both Ryan and Mary Lynn.
“I don’t even know how she knew how to do it, I never showed her how,” Mary Lynn said. “She doesn’t go out in the front yard, except for the car, so she never saw us use the doorbell.”
When they let Rajah inside, they said she cowered as if she was afraid she would get in trouble. So her parents assured her they weren’t mad. They were just glad she came back unharmed. Looks like Rajah has had a pretty cool adventure without her family.
Mary Lynn said: “She had thorns all over her body and appeared to have rolled in the stool. “So it looks like she was having a great time.”
We never know when our dogs will surprise us. Finally, the family explained that they had only lived in their current home for about a month. So that proves sweet Rajah is indeed a genius!
