Shinzo Abe, Japan’s former prime minister, dies after being shot while giving a speech, state broadcaster says | World News
State broadcaster NHK said former Japanese prime minister Shinzo Abe had died after being shot while giving a speech in the city of Nara.
The Nara City Fire Department said the 67-year-old man suffered injuries to the right side of his neck and left collarbone, adding that he had suffered a cardiopulmonary arrest before being taken to the hospital.
Public broadcaster NHK aired footage showing Mr Abe collapsed in the street with security guards running towards him.
A white smoke is seen as Mr. Abe made a campaign speech outside a train station.
A reporter at the scene said they heard two consecutive explosions during Mr. Abe’s speech.
Police said a 41-year-old man was arrested.
