“He has his story and I’m glad he’s achieved so much,” Ryan Garcia said of future rival Gervonta Davis on Tuesday. “His background really shows that he put in a lot of effort and I applaud him for that… but everything he has built, I have built.” Garcia spoke to the media during a public practice session to promote his super fight with Davis later this month. “I’ll catch him,” Ryan Garcia said when asked how the match between the two famous undefeated fighters would go. “I’ll knock him out.”
He may have credited Davis for working hard and creating his own success, but Garcia also pointed out that he doesn’t feel Davis is the sharpest tool in the warehouse – or even can be the most disciplined. “That man looked like he was pregnant,” he said of the Davis shot in training camp. “I’m at the point, ahead of time.” To illustrate this point, Garcia uttered these words while eating freshly made tacos. The tough young boxer then went on to knock Davis’ wits down. “He was so easily fooled,” Garcia said of Davis. He was like dumbfounded. Literally…he is gullible.” He looked pretty subdued on Tuesday, but Garcia was clearly willing to say what he felt had to do to advance the fight with Davis.
Davis-Garcia is one of the biggest fights in the sport in years. Indeed, this might be the most notable ring fight since Floyd Mayweather stopped Conor McGregor in 2017. The bout is certainly a major event in the sport. There is a good reason for this. Neither Garcia nor Davis lost a single match. Furthermore, each man is young, famous, and strong enough to take down a wall.
Davis is undoubtedly the favorite of the fight, but Garcia, who has a thunderous left hand, remains confident. Garcia said of his power punch: “You have to create ways to get him to rush into it.
