Terence Crawford’s reign #1 is in jeopardy
Since Boxing Junkie announced its rankings in the fall of 2019, there’s only been one king by the pound: Terence Crawford.
That could finally change on July 29 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, where Crawford will face off against the 147-pound belt holder and Errol Spence Jr. 4th place for the undisputed championship.
If Crawford (39-0, 30 KOs) wins, he will remain No. 1 and arguably justifies Boxing Junkie’s decision to stick with him for the past 4 years. If he loses, a new king will have to take the throne.
One possible scenario is that Spence (28-0, 22 KOs) will rise to #1 if he raises his hand in a super teamfight, especially if his victory is convincing. Knocking out the #1 carries a lot of weight.
Or, if Spence’s win isn’t convincing enough, No 2 Naoya Inoue will be considered for the top spot if he beats 122-pound belt holder and Honoree Stephen Fulton Jr. on July 25 in Tokyo, this is the next match involving a pound-for-pound.
If Fulton beats Inoue, third-placed Oleksandr Usyk will have a chance to climb up the rankings as the heavyweight champion prepares to defend his title against Daniel Dubois on August 26 in Poland.
And, of course, a potential Crawford-Spence rematch could also have equal ramifications.
Only one thing seems certain right now: The Boxing Junkie roster is likely to be different in a few weeks.
Keep stable.
Next weight ratio: Inoue vs. Fulton.
Here’s what the list looks like at the moment:
