Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650 full specs and disclosure
2023 Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650
Royal Enfield’s new larger capacity cruiser has just been launched to the press in India and to coincide with that, Royal Enfield has announced the full specifications of the Super Meteor 650. The new model is based on the same. Parallel engines are found in the Continental GT and the Interceptor.
The Super Meteor 650 is a classic beginner to mid-market cruiser option and is part of the LAMS (Accepted Learner Motor Program) in Australia.
This will put the Super Meteor in an interesting position. Compared to the Kawasaki Vulcan S 650 or Benelli 502C, this bike has a classic-school style matched with minimal plastic, offering a more futuristic approach to the competition.
However, compared to options like the Suzuki Boulevard S40, Yamaha V-Star 650, and Honda Shadow 750 (not LAMS), the Super Meteor is indeed more modern. From our experience with this engine platform, we know it has decent traction over a large usable rev range.
Just because the V-Twin doesn’t mean the Royal Enfield certainly has a different engine specification, but you’ll also get a six-speed transmission that matches the now-proven engine. Many of the older traditional LAMS cruisers are no longer new, reducing the number of options available to new riders or those interested in cruisers from this segment. A segment that, at least for now, has shrunk compared to previous years.
That engine is a 648 cc, parallel four stroke, air/oil cooled (SOHC) engine, running 78 mm in diameter and 67.8 mm in stroke. There’s EFI, electric starter and wet multi-plate clutch, of course, but the donk still runs with a relatively low 9.1:1 compression ratio.
This is also Royal Enfield’s flagship engine, which has brought the brand into the midsize nakedbike segment, increasing its appeal in international markets where larger-capacity engines are significantly standard.
So while the Super Meteor isn’t the heaviest car in its class, the wet weight of 241 kg is at the top of this comparison, even if that weight is carried low.
Interestingly, the seat height comes in at 740 mm, which is actually a bit higher than what you might expect since most of the competition sits closer to 700 mm.
With that said, Royal Enfield seems to have kept the bike much narrower in the front of the saddle, which could have a huge impact on how easy it is to safely put your foot down. Regardless, most riders, except perhaps the shortest, will find the Super Meteor fascinating.
On the chassis side of the equation, we see a steel tubular backbone that matches the muscular, for the segment, 43 mm USD forks, complete with a decent 120 mm of travel. Dual rear shock absorbers provide 101 mm of travel and preload adjustability. On the one hand, it’s a setup that looks class-leading but is still a bit basic in terms of adjustability. We’ll have to wait and see how well that dials in for multiple riders – and two – to really test the package.
Ground clearance stands at a very reasonable 135 mm, with a 19-inch front wheel wrapped in 100/90 rubber and a 16-inch rear wheel running 150/80 tyres, both tubeless, as we’d expect, with matching wheels. needle.
A 320 mm front rotor at the front is clamped by a two-piston caliper and supported by a 300 mm rear rotor also with a two-piston caliper. Two-channel ABS is fitted, now mandatory in Australia on all motorcycles. Those calipers are also Bybre, so Brembo’s more value-oriented products.
Fuel capacity of 15.7 L should provide decent range, with fuel economy in the previous 650s quoted as 4 L/100 km, with extra weight and an aerodynamic cruise package learning less could mean that number could be generous.
Other notable points include that the headlights and taillights are all LED, while the turn signals are still halogen bulbs and can be upgraded from a range of accessories. That range includes silver or black LED indicators, ‘Deluxe’ steering pins and stakes, silver handlebar clamps, handlebar ends or rearview mirrors, a travel display and a silver solo finisher to replacement seat.
The anti-collision bars (Engine guard) are also available in black or silver in two variants, as well as sump guards, a one-piece dual-layer passenger seat with a greater focus on comfort, brackets and passenger backrest cushion, along with a small stand. can be added, plus luggage. That includes Panniers Long Haul, with special mounting rails.
For a little extra sparkle, there are also machined side caps and 10-spoke alloy wheels, with Royal Enfield bike covers also available. However, there is no word yet on accessory pricing or sample pricing.
Other highlights include a standard USB slot, a three-year warranty and roadside assistance, cast switches, and a range of color options, including: Astral Black, Astral Blue, Astral Blue, Midway Blue stellar, Interstellar Grey, Celestial Red (Tourer variant) and Celestial Blue (Tourer variant).
The Tourer variant comes with rear-seat backrests, travel seats and a travel monitor fitted as standard, ready for long-distance excursions, especially for two.
Super Meteor will join Royal Enfield’s latest products, including the Scram 411 and Hunter 350. You can find our test of the range here. Royal Enfield Hunter 350 here (link)
For now, it’s a matter of waiting for information on availability and pricing, and while there’s no official word yet at this stage, we expect to see Super Meteor 650 in Australia in Q2 2023. .
