Roundup: Live Streamed Reviews
Live A Live is launching on Switch tomorrow, and reviews have already started pouring in!
This HD-2D remake of the 1994 Super Famicom classic has been much anticipated by RPG fans. Famous for its unusual structure and great music, many will end up experiencing this turn-based JRPG for the first time very, very soon.
So is it worth the wait? We at Nintendo Life certainly thought so, when we gave the remake an 8/10, praising the game’s originality and praising the HD-2D visuals, saying it “could be just an HD game- The best 2D.”
But what about others? IGN absolutely love the game and give it a 9/10:
“Live A Live is a fascinating piece of JRPG history worthy of the energy Square Enix expended to remake it for a global audience with a stunning new art style decades later.”
People in Eurogamer gave Live A Live a solid ‘Recommended’ seal, similarly praising the game’s chapter-by-chapter approach:
“The bold advantage of the Live A Live anthology format is that the components don’t have to be globally excellent. The appeal of the game is that it’s half brand new value and half observing a fixed development team. trying to fit the same parts into a different narrative context.”
Polygon slightly warmer with this Switch remake, which makes the gameplay not “catch up”:
“Up until the final encounter of each chapter, combat is more of an obligation than a benefit, and it actively hinders the more engaging mechanics.”
RPG websiteHowever, feel the same to us, giving the game 8/10 and celebrating its uniqueness:
“With modern touches, enhanced style and visual depth, this remake is the ideal way to experience Live A Live, even though this is coming from someone who’s never played the original. I enjoyed it very much. play through different stories, experiencing both the difference in gameplay and narrative style.”
And GameSpot also joined with another 8/10 love:
“It’s an achievement that nearly 30 years later, Live A Live still surprises, subversives, and fascinates. Those timeless qualities make it well worth your attention, now and possibly for years to come. .”
Live A Live is out now in Japan, and earlier today the official promo account shared this image on Twitter to celebrate this highly anticipated release.
We have to wait a little longer before we can all get our hands on Live A Live, and by the sound of it (and our own thoughts), it’s well worth the wait.
