Retired game developer Kevin Edwards recently Twitter to share my experience with the industry in the 1990s. While these posts certainly provide insight into the intricacies of building a video game, they also demonstrate the test. relevant when the development team is put under high pressure and limited deadlines.
One such post was unpacked by the good people at Time extensionin which Edwards shares a less-than-easily facsimile related to the 1992 SNES title, Spider-Man and the X-Men in Arcade’s Revenge. Sent from Arcade’s Revenge publisher, Acclaim (via the LJN label), the note details what changes need to be made to the superhero platformer.
These notes range from gameplay tweaks to outright naming of each member of the development team, although the one that really caught our attention Acclaim emphasized that the team changed the name of the location. centerpiece, ‘Murderworld’, into something a little less stable, we guess.

NINTENDO HAS INFORMED US THAT WE CANNOT USE THE TERM OF ‘MURDERWORLD’ PLEASE REMOVE IT FROM ARCADE TEXT. YOU SHOULD ONLY DELETE THE SECOND PART OF WORD INCLUDING IN THE MURDERWORLD WORLD, ‘HORRORWORW WORLD’ DOESN’T WORK.
We understand the desire to keep things kid-friendly, but Come on. Nintendo has been good at releasing titles like Super Castlevania IV for crying out loud – ‘Murderworld’ seems like a warm hug compared to that Dracula hunting horror festival. Combined with the fact that the location has appeared multiple times in the Marvel comics as the Arcade’s central hunting ground, its being missing from the game is something few people suspect. Must keep them safe!
