With the 3DS and Wii U servers permanently down just a few days ago, large amounts of DLC, digital-only games, and games that rely on online play have been lost to time. But one Dragon quest fans have sought to preserve all the DLC for the 3DS remake of Dragon Quest VII – and they did it just in time.
Gronya, a Dragon Quest enthusiast and content creator, has preserved all 56 DLC maps — known as ‘tablets’ in the game. These tablets are only accessible after completing the third island (at the earliest) with a few being locked post-game. Dragon Quest VII is not a short RPG, so trying to get through it before downloading all of them is not easy.
So Gronya was determined to preserve this content so fans could access the DLC whenever they wanted — even after the servers went down. Gronya was inspired to do this after seeing the thread from a Dragon Quest fan Shawls detail what needs to happen. Use word instructions Ignasia and a quick video from Twitch is in high spirits start performing your duties.
She needs to create a “clean” save file, and to do this she must level a specific character to level 50 – and only one that character. Recovering from a recent hospital stay, Gronya has settled into a rhythm and begun the long quest to level up and reach the third island. How long? Oh, just over 340 hours. And she documented her journey in the YouTube video below.
But now, thanks to Gronya’s efforts, that DLC is intact and available for everyone to download. Both Gronya and another DQ fan DaniPhoPhani uploaded their clean save files for the PAL and US versions of the game respectively.
