Beijing 2024: Volkswagen ID. Future electric vehicle preview code concept for China – introducing ID.UX sub-brand
Volkswagen’s debut at this year’s Auto China in Beijing is the ID. Code, a concept model that shows the first image of a future large electric SUV with a new design language that will also be applied to future models sold in China.
Outstanding signal on ID. Code includes a swept-back roofline and chiseled wheel arches that flow into smooth surfaces to create a fairly aerodynamic shape. Meanwhile, the front of the car features an interactive lighting system that includes something called Light Cloud, which is made up of 967 LEDs to create a strip of light between the headlights.
The light cloud is said to give character to the concept by allowing it to “express itself” through “3D eyes looking in different directions”. There is also a Light Screen placed in the grille position. This acts like a display panel that can show various information or messages when active (like when in autopilot mode), but is otherwise blended into the body of the car thanks to a clear coat of paint. special transparent.
For even more expressiveness, ID. Code has Smart Windows, where certain areas of the glass can display an avatar that can interact with you as you approach the vehicle. Not surprisingly, artificial intelligence (AI) will power many of these systems.
Being an electric vehicle (EV), Volkswagen doesn’t provide many details beyond the fact that there are electric motors that draw power from lithium-ion batteries, the latter supplemented by onboard solar panels. glass roof. There is also a comprehensive suite of sensors and enhanced processing to enable Level 4 automated driving, in which case the driver can take their hands off the steering wheel.
When in self-driving mode, the front passenger will rotate the seat 180 degrees to blend in with those in the back or strike up a conversation with the car’s avatar. The cabin itself has a minimalist design, with the display covering the entire top of the dashboard, while the secondary screen tilts up from the top of the center console. Volkswagen adds ID. Code’s sound, ambient lighting and climate systems aim to deliver a “private jet” level of comfort
How many interesting features of this concept will be put into production is still unknown except for the ID. The Code represents the beginning of a new future for the brand’s electric vehicles in China. To that end, Volkswagen said its ID. The family will grow to a total of 16 models by 2030, including five electric models that are part of the new ID.UX sub-brand that will celebrate its market launch in 2027.
