Angry incident on Karak highway causes Proton Waja to overturn and two people injured in serious accident

Tempers flared when two drivers met on Karak Highway on Sunday (April 7, 2024) leading to a serious accident that left one driver and one passenger with minor injuries. The incident recorded on video later spread on social networks and attracted many comments.

According to Bentong district police chief Supt Zaiham Mohd Kahar, the incident occurred at KM49.4 of the expressway (towards Kuala Lumpur) at around 10:15 am. In the video, the Proton Waja is seen driving along the highway before changing lanes to the right and accidentally blocking a Honda City.

The City driver then followed the Waja before overtaking it in what appeared to be a dangerous manner. Perhaps out of frustration, the driver of the Waja then gave chase and crashed into the left side of the City. Both cars met again at a corner, with the City pushing the Waja, which swerved and hit the Honda again before the driver lost control, crashed into a culvert and flipped the car.

Zaiham revealed that the driver of the Waja was a 56-year-old man traveling with his 25-year-old son, while the City was driven by a 34-year-old man. “Before the accident, both cars were driving recklessly, following closely and provoking each other due to dissatisfaction with each other’s driving,” he said.

The incident is being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act, 1987. In his statement, Zaiham reminded motorists to understand and practice ethical driving to prevent accidents can take lives.
