Queer Eye’s Jonathan adopts the dog after being heartbroken about a previous rescue

Jonathan Van Ness, one of the five stars of Netflix Queer’s Eye, is the reality show’s “grooming expert”. Interestingly, his dogs all have short hair.

Van Ness took to Instagram on July 23, 2022, to introduce his second dog: the newly adopted Rose. However, devoted fans of Van Ness’ may notice that Rose is a different dog from another that frequently appears on his page.

Find a better fit for Pablo

In a lengthy caption on his Instagram, Jonathan revealed that he and husband Mark had to find another home for their eventual rescue dog Pablo.

“My heart is heavy since you may or may not have guessed we had to rebuild our Pablo earlier this year. We love him so much but with his short temper and the fact that I travel & be around so many people it makes Pablo miserable”.

When it fails with a rescue dog, it’s sad for both the dog and the person. It’s like Jonathan’s home and way of life not suitable for Pablo, a nervous dog in need of a calmer and more stable living situation.

Fortunately, Van Ness and Mark secured Pablo to a more loving and appropriate home environment.

“Fortunately we have great friends who have taken Pablo and he is very happy and growing. But then my broken heart. I’m very determined to make Pablo safe and happy in our home but I have to do what’s best for him. But, I was literally devastated.”

Introducing roses

Because Van Ness already had an established relationship with the rescue team Safe in Austin, he contacted the organization’s founder Jamie. Jamie previously appeared on an episode of Queer’s Eye (Section 6).

“I called @safeinaustinrescue and asked Jamie if she had any kids that needed a home and she said yes,” Van Ness added.

So far, Rose seems to be doing very well in her new home. She has another canine sibling, Elton, also from Safe in Austin. This organization specializes in rescuing animals with special needs and from abusive situations.

Letting Pablo go was difficult for this family, but it seemed the right outcome for everyone. Sometimes dogs from abusive backgrounds need a more stable home life and that’s hard to come by when your dad is a celebrity.
