Many expectations Hyundai Ioniq 5 there’s obviously going to be a cameo in Spider-Man: There’s no way home. To highlight the fact, Hyundai released a short video showcasing the electric hatchback and the franchise’s two stars.
The clip begins with Peter Parker, aka Spider-Man, (played by Tom Holland) watching TV in a motel room. He decided he needed to get back to New York and got to work. Stepping out the door, he surfed the web, only to realize that there were no tall buildings from which to swing along the country road. So Spidey is forced to walk on his own two feet like any non-superhero, until his best friend Ned Leeds (Jacob Batalon) stumbles across Ioniq 5.
The duo was exactly 300 miles from Manhattan, a helpful sign. As it happens, that’s exactly the Ioniq 5’s cruise range, as US models are only available with the larger 77.4 kWh the battery pack. From that, we can deduce that Ned’s car is a single-cylinder with 225 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. The twin engines, the SE and the SEL, have only 269 miles of range, but go AWD. The top-spec Limited AWD has a range of 244 miles but delivers 320 horsepower and 446 pound-feet of torque. Granted, it’s good for 0-60 sprints in under 5 seconds.
Since Parker and Ned can get to New York for a fee, they won’t need to be plugged in along the way. However, if they do, the 800-volt system should be able to go from 10% to 80% in 18 minutes using a 350 kW charger. Ioniq 5 shares platform with Kia EV6 and Genesis GV60 and Hyundai make a big push into the electric field.
You might have noticed Holland humming a song from the 1960s Spider-Man cartoon. However, the design of the Ioniq 5 is based on the original Hyundai Pony, a car that was never officially sold in the US. . Released in 1975, it would hit the market around the time Spider-Man got his first live-action role. We argue that this version written by Gary William Friedman would be very more appropriate song to hum, since the live-action Spidey began as a repeat segment in a children’s show, Electric Company.
