Malaysians are generally a car-crazed bunch and we also love our Protons and Peroduas. Now 2022 Perodua Alza and Ativa Hybrid has been released, people are eagerly waiting for what’s next.
Looks like their target is on a possibly bigger B-segment SUV Perodua Ativa currently known as “Perodua Nexis”.
How did these Perodua Nexis photos go viral?
The source of the hype was a renderer by computer renderer Idiyaz Baharuddin, who rendered a album about what a future Perodua B-segment SUV might look like.
He named it Perodua Nexis because it was one of the trademarks that Perodua registered in April 2022. Another trademark registered with Perodua Nexis is Perodua Traz.
Is Perodua aiming for a B-segment SUV?
Saying yes, Perodua is planning a larger SUV than the Perodua Ativa and it is currently codenamed Perodua D66B.
It will be built on the DNGA-B platform, which also underpins the 2023 Toyota Vios, 2022 Perodua Alza and 2022 Toyota Veloz.
Is Perodua Nexis a confirmed name for the D66B?
Nexis is not a confirmed name, it is the name chosen by computer graphics artists for renderings that have gone viral.
Perodua has trademarked many other names it has not yet used, such as Perodua Traz, Perodua Eliana and Perodua Atrivia.
Even so, the new Perodua SUV’s name may not be a previously trademarked name and instead an unbranded future name.
Perodua D66B will be based on which model of Daihatsu or Toyota?
Currently, no B-segment SUV based on DNGA has been launched in any market.
Here are some B-segment SUV models that Toyota is selling. Will any of them end up being a Perodua?
first) Toyota Yaris Cross
This is the Toyota Yaris Cross, which recently won the 2022 World Urban Car award. It looks pretty good and it looks like the rendered Perodua Nexis took some inspiration from it.
However, this is an expensive “first world” Euro/Japanese market model based on TNGA-BE instead of DNGA-BUCKso it is unlikely to become a Perodua.

2) Toyota Urban Cruiser HyRyder
It’s a B-segment SUV sold in India, which means it might be cost-effective enough to be sold as a Perodua, but it’s not based on DNGA-B or TNGA-B.
Instead, this is a product for the Indian market based on a joint venture with Suzuki, sharing the same platform as the Suzuki Grand Vitara.
Neither product looks like the basis for a future Perodua B-segment SUV.
Will Perodua take the lead in the DNGA B-SUV project?
Since there is no DNGA-B SUV yet, can Perodua take the lead in development? After all, it did so with Myvi and Bezza. That could be a possibility.
What else could just be a future DNGA-B Yaris Cross is simply yet to be revealed. This Yaris Cross will only share the same name as Europe’s TNGA-B Yaris Cross but instead builds on DNGA-B and is part of the Yaris bloom and Yaris Ativ (Vios) family sedan in Thailand, and finally the Perodua in Malaysia.
