Polestar 5 will face Porsche, Tesla and Lucid with 884 HP
Polestar is drawing the debut of Polestar 5its upcoming flagship EV, but the company has proven that Polestar 5 aims to compete with EVs from Porsche, Lucid and Tesla. At this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed, a Polestar 5 The prototype took to the hills to show off its capabilities, aided by two electric motors that produce 884 horsepower and 664 pound-feet of torque.
Yes, after a short while, it looks like the horsepower war is back – but this time, it’s EVs up front. Notably, it’s not just special editions or demonstration cars, like Ford Electric SuperVan, which generates extremely high HP and torque; it’s production vehicles like the Polestar 5, starting with Commandment idea.
The Polestar 5’s dual-motor drivetrain and 800-volt battery are said to allow the EV to go from 0 arrive 60 mph in less than four seconds, each Automotive News. And Polestar 5 also boasts a lightweight bonded aluminum frame with high rigidity. Polestar has yet to release full specs, and the company hasn’t revealed the EV’s hilltop transit times at Goodwood either. We’ll probably have to wait for those specs, as the Polestar 5 won’t be released until 2024.
But it looks like Polestar 5 is a bow shot from Polestar, it’s no longer content to make sensible EVs, and is now back to making performance EVs. Truly, Polestar 5 is a reminder that the company has always been one manufacturer of performance electric cars. This latest EV, however, outperforms previous models and will do so as a means of production.

On the one hand, I’m happy that a four-door GT — a sports sedan of all things — will be Polestar’s next flagship. Not an SUV. Of course, Polestar is planning to release a couple of EV SUV models, the Polestar 3 and 4, but the Polestar 5 will be the car to take on Polestar’s toughest competitors.
On the other hand, this is another flagship EV, an electric halo car with motors spinning its front and rear wheels. There’s no word on pricing yet, but the price will likely reflect the Polestar 5’s high output.
Except for a or two electric car models are trending wrong direction in the US and a top EV makes almost 900 hp not the best way to scale the use of electric cars. I can’t blame Polestar for going after Porsche, Lucid, and Tesla, but I do hope Polestar has another affordable EV coming out – a cheap and affordable sedan. Maybe something to compete with and undercut the Tesla Model 3. If not, I guess there’s always Hyundai and Kia.
