Order of Australia, Emperor of Russia scores in Qatar
Australian orders 2020 Breeders’ Cup Mile (G1T) winner proved that the roads to victory were not behind him on 18 February with victory at the Irish Thoroughbred Marketing Cup (G2) at the Racecourse Al Rayyan in Qatar.
Ryan Moore really wants to race with his 6-year-old son Australia and after crossing the tracks in the back, intern Aidan O’Brien had enough money in reserve to hold out local runner Band Width in the $500,000 race.
Moore said: “He was a class horse in his day as a Breeders’ Cup Mile winner and it’s great that he’s back on the track. He’ll likely improve to run and run. he’s waiting a little bit ahead.”
Order of Australia is now set to return to the Middle East for the Dubai Turf (G1T) in Meydan next month.
Murphy continued
Oisin Murphy continued his impressive return to action as he watched the winner return on Thursday at Chelmsford with his Hugo Palmer-trained on-court success fire ribs in the Dukhan Sprint (G3).
Despite being stuck in a 12 draw in his stall, Flaming Rib knocked out the leads by a half and a half and continued to hold the local runner-up Taxiwalawho won the contest six times over the past two years, making Palmer the first winner outside of Europe.
Murphy, who was unlucky in his three rides at the HH Amir Sword Festival on Friday, said: “I called Hugo over Christmas to ask if he would consider this horse race. no and he said he agreed. It’s great to be here at such a wonderful meeting and a big thank you to Hugo and Michael Owen for this being a big call to bring me up horse.”
