Ohtani hits 33rd HR leading MLB, expected to start next

ANAHEIM, California — Shohei Ohtani hit his big-league 33rd match to usher in a rally that ended in the ninth inning, and rookie Trey Cabbage scored against rookies Grae Kessingerthrow error of 10 to give Angel Los Angeles wild win 13-12 via Houston Astros on Saturday night.

Astros rookie threw away first base while trying to turn an easy half-ending doubles match into Taylor Wardof the platform. Cabbage scored from third in just his second big game to start a festive celebration for the Angels, who recovered from a six-time deficit in Saturday’s and deficit three times in the ninth game.

The Angels can only hope their next win is a little less grueling than this one, which broke their six-game losing streak.

“To say that victory is necessary is an overstatement,” said Angels manager Phil Nevin.

And it comes after the Angels received a flurry of good news about Ohtani from a pitching perspective. He is expected to start his next match last Friday Pittsburgh Piratesdespite minor finger injuries that have hindered his past three starts, Nevin said.

Ohtani was bothered by blisters on his fingers and cracked nails, and had to leave the match that started Friday in the sixth round.

“For the most part, things didn’t go the way I wanted,” Ohtani said through a translator Friday. “When I was on the mound, it was like that. …I really don’t think about my next outing. I’ll go to the field, see where my finger is, and go from there.”

Houston has their own problems on the mound. beginner Frame Valdez left Saturday’s game with an obvious left calf injury in the seventh inning, but manager Dusty Baker said the team hoped both injuries were just cramps.

“They started hitting us all over the football field,” Baker said. “You just hate ending the game like that. Just a bad, bad loss for us.”

The AL West competitors combined for 18 runs in the final four innings, and Houston’s bullpen blew up, allowing eight hits and eight runs – earned six.

The Angels drew it 9-9 in the seventh round Mike Mustakas‘ homer runs three times. Chas McCormick put Houston ahead with a two-track homer in the eighth lap, and Yainer Diaz added an RBI single on Friday to take the Astros to 12-9.

Star is closer Ryan press failed to hit a single shot since June 15 before he took the lead in those three runs, starting with Ohtani’s 404-foot lead in the middle. Renfroe HunterHis RBI single scored at number nine, but Pressly eventually overtook two Angels in scoring.

“It gives us a lot of motivation to move forward,” said Mustakas. “A lot of things happened during that game, and we found a way to come back and win. It showed we could do it. The team won fantastically.”

All-Star is closer Carlos Estevez (3-1) throw a 10th inning without scoring for Los Angeles, and Phil Maton (2-3) lose without hitting.

Jose Abreu hit the homer three times in the seventh inning five times for the Astros, but the Angels responded with an even bigger rally that included the rookie Zach Neto‘s run the dinger twice.

Neto connects with Valdez, who abruptly leaves with a sports coach followed by two pitches, midway through Ohtani’s game. Valdez peaked his career with 13 goals, but only conceded 7 times and 5 runs on 103 pitches.

Kyle Tucker drove in three runs for the Astros.

Reid Detmers yields four runs with five hits and three walks in six innings for the Angels.
