Osaka, Muguruza exit Madrid Open in round 2
Naomi Osaka and Garbine Muguruza were among the top players to be knocked out of the Madrid Open on a day of uncertainty.
Spain’s Sara Sorribes Tormo beat Osaka 6-3, 6-1 in the second round on Sunday on the Spanish capital’s outdoor clay courts. Four-time Grand Slam champion Osaka enjoyed six aces but was broken serve five times by Sorribes Tormo, who beat French Open runner-up Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova five times.
Osaka said her movement was limited due to pain in her left leg, which was heavily bandaged.
“I felt something in Achilles after my last game, and like yesterday I couldn’t really make it because I wanted it to go away,” she said. “Honestly, I probably should have been a little smarter about the whole way I’ve been through everything.
“I felt like I couldn’t play the way I wanted to, like I was limited. … I don’t even really know what I did to my Achilles, so maybe I’ll go do an ultrasound and see what happened, and then me and my team will move on from there. “

Sorribes Tormo next faces Daria Kasatkina after she fights back against fourth seed Maria Sakkari with a score of 3-6, 6-3, 6-1.
Ukraine’s Anhelina Kalinina knocks Muguruza 6-3, 6-0.
Muguruza, the defending champion of the WTA Finals, suffered pain in her right calf but said this was not the reason for her defeat.
“I was amazed with her game. I didn’t know her at all,” said Muguruza. “During those breaks, they were inactive. I only allowed it to enter (on) a few points. “
Bianca Andreescu beat sixth seed Danielle Collins 6-1, 6-1 after the American lost serve six times and made six double errors.
US Open champion Emma Raducanu defeated Marta Kostyuk 6-2, 6-1.
