If you go to Instagram and look at popular hashtags or landscape photography locations, you’ll probably notice a lot of the same types of photos. As such, a lot of photography advice tells you to simply develop your own style so you can stand out from the crowd. However, is that the best approach? This excellent video features an experienced landscape photographer discussing why that can really get you in a bit of trouble.
Coming to you from Alister Benn’s Expressive photography, this great video essay discusses the idea of developing your own personal style in landscape photography. I think Benn makes a really good point here: when you develop a specific, systematized personal voice, you’re almost forced to follow it, and that can force you to turn around. and edit in ways that are appropriate to the condition and the audience. unprofitable or even completely missed opportunities. Of course, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t figure out your trends and preferences, but you should be careful not to be too strict in their approach.
