Nauticam Launches Housing for Canon EOS R5 C

Nauticam announced new housing for Canon EOS R5 COLOR—Cinema EOS-inspired version of Canon’s popular full-frame mirrorless camera. For example, while the R5 C retains many of the features and stills functionality of R5 photos—45 megapixels at up to 12fps with a mechanical shutter—in video mode, there are significant upgrades : unlimited recording time in all modes up to 8K/60p (no sensor crop), Cinema EOS menu system and Cinema RAW Light format for maximum dynamic range but easier to manage file size.

The R5 C’s included fan makes the camera slightly bulkier than its sibling, and Nauticam’s NA-R5C housing is respectively deeper and taller. That extra height is due to Nauticam making room for the USB-C socket — needed for recording in Cinema RAW Light 8K/60p — the slot underneath the camera. Otherwise, the enclosure offers the same features as the R5 case: highly ergonomic control position, dual fiber optic baffle for manual or TTL strobe trigger (depending on optional trigger), and Nauticam’s electronic vacuum and leak detection equipment as standard.

Shipping May 3 and available to order now at retailers like BackscatterThe NA-R5C is priced at $7,129.

INTRODUCTION NA-R5C

Canon EOS R5 CAMERA

The Canon EOS R5 C is the latest in Canon’s line of full-frame mirrorless cameras that has hit unprecedented demand. This camera has truly set new standards for a combined mirrorless camera that offers both cinema features and premium stills. It uses the same large 54mm diameter RF lens mount, but the ability to have larger rear lens elements closer to the sensor enhances sharpness at the edges and corners.

The R5 C uses a 45MP full-frame CMOS sensor with Canon’s beloved Dual Pixel Autofocus. It’s also capable of recording 8K 60p video internally in Canon’s Cinema RAW Light format and 4K 120p at 4:2:2 10-bit without sensor cropping. With the flip of a switch, you can transform the R5 C into a professional stills camera and share all the same specs as the Canon R5. The EOS R5 C can also utilize the large line of EF-mount lenses via three optional adapters, a simple EF to R converter, a customizable control ring support, and another with a mount. drop-in filter.

Underwater Housing NAUTICAM NA-R5C FOR CANON EOS R5 C

The NA-R5C underwater case is a good fit for Nauticam’s innovation efforts. The Canon R5 C gives photographers the ability to use both legacy EF lenses available through their native RF optical in addition to converters. To support both legacy and original lenses, Nauticam has integrated the NA-R5C into the N120 port system. Canon’s EF to RF mount adapter can be attached to the camera prior to mounting in the case. When using the EOS R5 C inside a case with an adapter and supported EF lenses, the port arrangement and extension ring will be the same as the same setup on the Nauticam Canon N120 EF Lens Mount Chart. As the line of RF lenses continues to emerge, more specialized port and extension ring combinations will be listed on the Port Chart. Two lens release buttons, one for RF and one for EF lenses used with optional Canon adapters, located on the front of the case make it simple to remove the lens via port opening .

Mission Control

Nauticam engineers are obsessed with helping the underwater imager have unrestricted access to all the necessary controls, with many possibilities within reach of the ergonomic rubber grip. . This Mission Control philosophy extends to the NA-R5 C, where a dual thumbstick and dual auxiliary lever are located in the right hand grip. The upper lever activates the “AF-On” button and the “Menu” or “Q” button on the bottom while the secondary lever corresponds to the “M-Fn” and “Record” buttons. Near the left handle is a thumbstick for “Playback” as well as a dedicated switch for changing from using the LCD to the EVF.

The large knurled and rubberized control dials access the camera’s “main” and “sub” command dials. The two-stage trigger allows for smooth focusing and firing. Additional buttons for “Menu”, “Focus Point Selection” and others are also easily accessible from the handle.

The optional 16703 controller for the NA-R5C is available for use with the EF-EOS R Drop-in Filter Mount Adapter. The Canon Control Ring and the Drop-in Filter Mount Adapter can be accessed from the top. left side (ADAP FN knob).

External battery pack

To support internal Canon Cinema RAW Light 8K 60p recording, an external power supply is required. At the bottom of the case is space to accommodate the USB-C power socket. Here are two known compatible batteries with more coming soon:

  • Anker PowerCore III 19,200mAh Huge 45W Cell Power Supply Portable Charger (Dimensions: 169x79x22.4mm)
  • Battery ZMI 20000mah 65W PD (Dimensions: 160.4×81.8×21.5mm)

Enable Flash

Flash firing is done via either optional Flash Triggers, manual LED triggers (PN 26301) or TTL Flash Triggers (PN 26321) using a built-in fiber baffle. with optional fiber optic cable for strobe triggering is supported. For strobe control that does not support fiber flash triggering, a variety of legacy hotbed flash control baffles are available.

INTEGRATED VACUUM TESTING AND Detecting SYSTEM

The Nauticam leak detection and vacuum test electronics are shipped with the NA-R5C as standard equipment. Combined with the optional accessory Vacuum Valve 25625 M16 II, this monitoring system provides constant updates on the housing’s watertightness and diving safety. The simple color-coded LED lighting system lets the user know that the vacuum is solid, or that the case is losing its vacuum. Leak detection is integrated in the same circuit, so if there is water ingress, an audible and visual indicator will appear.

The Nauticam system is temperature compensated, eliminating false alarms caused by changes in the outside temperature or because the camera heats up during an action-packed dive.
