Going with the process: We look at the Insta360 process

Insta360 has now introduced the Insta360 Flow, a portable, lightweight, foldable and pocket-sized gimbal packed with features to help you create stunning videos. If you’ve ever used one of their products, you know the quality they deliver. I personally had a chance to try the Insta360 One X2 and love it, and hope to own a new X3 in the future. So when they asked for a review, I jumped at the chance.

When we go out and shoot video, the first thing we tend to reach is our cell phone. It has everything we need to capture moments, record our travels, have fun with friends and even make high quality movies at a low cost. Because of the video capabilities that modern phones have, these videos are usually of high quality. In fact, director Sir Ridley Scott recently produced a short film Let’s see am using Galaxy S23 Ultra. Ok so we are not Sir Ridley Scott but we can still have fun making videos and any kind of useful equipment that can be added to improve the shooting of these videos is well received. heat.

Quality build

The Insta360 X3 360 pocketable and lightweight gimbal with folded dimensions of 79x162x36mm and weighing 369g without the magnetic phone clip and 401g with it. The detachable magnetic phone clip design is really well thought out so that once you’re done recording your video, you can simply remove the phone (with clip attached) and fold the gimbal to put it in your pocket.

The main components are made of hard plastic but it doesn’t feel cheap or the fact that you can break it easily. The back of the gimbal arm is a darker transparent plastic that allows you to see the technology inside the gimbal. This of course does not make it perform better but is an aesthetic beauty. There is also a separate rubber grip that fits snugly on the gimbal’s handle allowing for better friction when in use.

The magnet for the phone mount is extremely durable so you don’t have to worry about the magnet coming apart and damaging your phone.

Once your phone is docked, you can also attach a small led light that is color temperature controlled and has different brightness with a simple click of the button located on the light, also has temperature modes color on the lights to balance your colors. The lighting depending on where you are recording the video can be changed by simply clicking the button above the light.

In addition to adding extra light, there’s also a flip-out cooler where you can attach the Rode Wireless Go II receiver, then connect the cable via the lightning port and you’ve got great sound for your videos.

The gimbal also features well-designed and very useful tripods that keep the gimbal steady even when the arm is fully extended to 215mm. Once retracted, the pins link together and lock around a 1/4-inch threaded hole if you want to mount the gimbal on a tripod plate.

Featured

Insta360 Flow, through the app, is packed with a wide range of filming features to unleash your creative potential, including;

  • Panorama: 360°, 240°, 180° or 3×3 grid format. The first gimbal to take 360° panoramic photos.

  • Timeshift: super drift and stabilized footage.

  • Motion Timelapse: use a tripod and shoot in an interval between two points.

  • Dolly Zoom: zoom in or out of the object simulating the Hollywood effect.

  • Ring mode: Basketball fan mode tracks the ball and hoop to recognize when a basket is taken, then saves highlights for later editing.

Efficiency

For me, it works great without any problems and I can see the gimbal’s versatility in many situations. The gimbal powers on and starts working with a simple arm unlock, so there’s no delay in getting the shot you want quickly. Powering on and off can also be done via the power button, but I found the arm power unlock quite useful. It rotates very easily at the touch of a button and remains stable when sprinting in both horizontal and vertical directions.

The app has many features and is quite easy to navigate without any delay in any of the functions. The Bluetooth connection was stable and never dropped, which has happened to other gimbals I’ve used at work. AI tracking is extremely useful when capturing videos of moving subjects when locked, just do it by raising your hand if you’re filming yourself, or clicking the button on the handle and the camera will automatically create a frame. shape and track your audience. I also asked my son to test the gimbal as he works for a video company and mainly uses professional equipment like the DJI Ronin, so I thought this was a different and a younger perspective. , that would be a good idea. He asked to take it to Barcelona on vacation with him, so I think that says it all. He commented on the app saying that some of the video tutorials aren’t clear enough in their tutorials but added that it hasn’t been released yet so it’s more than likely the app is being worked on for launch.

What I like

  • Compact size.
  • The application has many features.
  • price point

What I don’t like

  • Summit white (personal preference). However, it is also available in Stone Gray.
  • Container: The container detracts from the product’s aesthetic, as it looks and feels like a by-product in this case, if you forgive this pun. Personally, I never use the carrying case and instead just keep it in my pocket or camera bag. Which due to its compact size is really easy to do.

Who is it aimed at?

Ok, so here are my thoughts on this unit. Can you use it to make low budget movies? There are times when pushing, but there are other units that I offer more in terms of features and builds, but that is not the market Insta360 Flow is aimed at. The purpose of this device is daily use, capturing moments, traveling, having fun with friends, dare I say influencers, vloggers and desktop camera parts. or tripod mounted.

Final thoughts

So, does Insta360 Flow deliver? “Yes” is the answer to that. It is small and portable thanks to its foldable design. I feel that having the extra features of an expandable tripod and selfie stick is a great addition and allows for more flexibility in creative ideas and usage. If you’re on vacation, out with friends, or traveling and don’t want to shoot with a basic selfie stick, then the Insta360 Flow gimbal might be what you’re looking for to get better results and make videos pop. more fun to shoot.

There’s a lot of creative potential with this compact device and a wealth of features to enhance your video creation in both shooting and editing. So if you’re looking to get that creative edge for your videos, no matter what you’re doing, anniversary, reel, event or travel, you won’t go wrong with Insta360 Flow. With unit costs of just $159 and £145, it is a solid contender in the market for everyone to have fun and dramatically improve their mobile videos.
