MyCRS child seat subsidy program for B40 ends – 61,957 recipients, RM8.8 million disbursed

The Keluarga Malaysia Child Seat Subsidy Scheme (MyCRS) has ended. MyCRS, is announced in Budget 2022 The provision of subsidized child car seats to group B40 was conducted from March to September this year and received 527,254 applications. Since then, 61,957 people have received subsidies and a total of RM8.8 million has been disbursed.

The MyCRS allowance is 50% and the maximum benefit amount is RM150 for a child seat. The government’s initial allocation for the program was RM30 million to 188,000 recipients, so it appears the program was not fully registered despite the best efforts of the Malaysian Road Safety Research Institute ( MIROS), even went sightseeing to educate parents about the importance of child seats, as well as to get more money to buy subsidized seats with approval in place.

The Jelahah Subsidi MyCRS . Program traveled to Kedah, Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang, Perak and Johor, visiting sites with high concentrations of B40s with young children such as government clinics. MIROS and the Department of Transportation (MoT) also participate in federal government operations Jelajah Aspirasi Keluarga Malaysia roadshows nationwide, including in Sabah and Sarawak.

“This program is the responsibility of the government to Keluarga Malaysia to fight for and improve the safety of children in vehicles. It also supports businesses and the economic recovery of the country,” said MIROS Director General Datuk Khairil Anwar Abu Kassim, thanking the Prime Minister, Minister of Transport and MoT for this initiative. .

MyCRS is supported by child restraint distributors Koopers Distribution, Quinton Baby, Crolla Baby, Little One Group and SNS Products.

Perhaps the B40s feel that there are more important things to spend their money on, or perhaps affordability is still an issue despite subsidies. We won’t know, but the great news is that there are now nearly 62,000 new child seats on the road, providing even more safety for little ones.

We’ve said it many times before – a child seat is an important safety device and if you’re on a tight budget, it should take precedence over other car options. Watch the video above to learn more.
