An independent judicial panel has ruled that Oisin Murphy will not be able to reapply for his equestrian license for 14 months — back to December 8 — after the three-time national champion equestrian This expert accepts that he has committed all five charges brought by the British Equestrian Authority.
Murphy appeared at High Holborn on February 22 to face two charges related to a breach of COVID-19 protocol in September 2020 and two failed alcohol tests in May and October. 2021 — as well as a general count of “acting in a manner that is prejudicial to the integrity, proper conduct and good reputation of the sport”.
Murphy was suspended three times 11 months for two COVID-19 offenses and conduct damaging to the sport’s reputation, all for running concurrently, along with a £31,111 fine ($42,311) la), while he was given ten days with a second alcohol positive for his test at Chester on 5 May and another 90 days for a third such positive recorded at Newmarket October 8, for a total of 100 days. He could return to racing on February 16, 2023.
Murphy did not contest any of the charges and told the panel the effect of dual pressure on the riders’ championship and the BHA’s investigation into his breach of COVID-19 protocol had leads to how “out of control” he drinks – alcohol problems. The driver said he is now in control after seeking expert help.
The cases were heard simultaneously by a three-man panel, chaired by Sir James O’Mahony in the presence of Rachel Sphering and Anthony Connell, with charges combined after Murphy’s legal team apply for an extension in December so motorists can seek help with their addiction.
Murphy, 26, gave up his license on December 8 to focus on his rehabilitation and has not competed in races since.
