MLS Draft 2022 Live: NCAA College Times, Streams, Orders, and Top Picks

The MLS 2022 draft, known as SuperDraft, comes in on Tuesday with a lot of talent to be found but also no clear choice to head the orders.

There will be a total of three rounds and the Charlotte FC expansion team is selected first, taking Maryland quarterback Ben Bender. MLS champions New York City FC have the final pick of the first round. The order is based on the reverse order of completion from last season, but the teams have since moved up and down the draft order through trades.

The COVID-19 pandemic has pushed college football into some upheaval, with players gaining more eligibility and the ability to transfer to new schools. There will still be value to be found in this talented pool, although the number of MLS-ready players is likely to be slim. The midfield class is particularly meager, with plenty of defenders and goalkeepers.

Top prospects of draft MLS 2022

In this season, the goalkeeper is a position to watch, as up to 4 players can play in the first leg. Not a single goalkeeper was eliminated in the first round of last year’s draft, with the first goal being knocked out by FC Dallas in pick 48. This year’s lineup is an entirely different story.

There is a talented duo of ACC strikers in the pool at Kyle Holcomb and Thor Ulfarsson, with a group of strikers poised to score goals this coming season. This year’s thin position is midfielder.

THAN: National Women’s Football League draft picks

Here is a list of 18 players who could make it to the top 10 picks of the draft. Saint Louis, the team that made it to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament, has several top players that could be eliminated early.

Goalie:

Roman Celentano (Indiana)

Twice Goalkeeper of the Year, Celentano has compiled a stunning 82.1% savings rate over his three seasons at Indiana, including the insane 90.8% mark in 16 games this season. COVID-19 2020-21 tournament (six goals allowed, nine shutdowns). His highlight was a four-time save in November against Northwestern, the #1 in SportsCenter’s top 10.

Patrick Schulte (Saint Louis)

A sophomore with experience playing for the U.S. national youth team at the U18 level, he performed well for both his school and Saint Louis FC. Schulte had saved three penalties in a penalty shootout in the US Open Cup 2019 when the home team reached the fourth round of that year’s tournament. He has made nine appearances and has scored just 18 goals in 21 games for the Billikens this season.

Alec Smir (North Carolina)

Smir leads the ACC with 10 appearances in 2020, scoring 11 goals in 18 games and playing every second in UNC’s journey to the College Cup. This past season has seen a drop in those numbers, but he has considerable senior experience.

Will Meyer (Akron)

He joined Akron upon his move from Louisville, and although his numbers didn’t jump off the page, he was highly regarded by scouts and could be mentioned in the first round, albeit he will probably go after the other three already mentioned.

Defender:

Kipp Keller (Saint Louis)

Keller, the 2021 All American runner-up, is one of three potential picks in the draft after leaving as a junior and signing a special-generation adidas contract that won’t count towards his salary budget. team.

He is more highly rated than teammate Simon Becher, who became an All-American first-team striker, but Keller should become a hot commodity as a young domestic pick at the back.

Esai Easley (Grand Canyon)

After choosing competitive football over competitive surfing, Easley worked on the national scene at the Grand Canyon, where he proved to be a maneuverable choice at center back on his way to becoming a Defensive Player. of the WAC of the Year and was recognized as one of the best defenders in the nation.

Ryan Sailor (Washington)

Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year and All-American First Team, Sailor has plenty of buzz in the crowded midfield scene. During his senior season, Sailor started all 22 games and led a defense that conceded just 10 goals, the third best in the nation. He also scored six more goals, the best total in the country for a centre-back. The only question of his readiness is the only question.

Ahmed Longmire (UCLA)

While Longmire’s season failed to garner the Pac-12 and national acclaim like Sailor’s did, due to concussion issues, the Utah Valley transfer became his own at UCLA and solidified himself as a prominent prospect.

Charlie Asensio (Clemson)

A late addition to the draft after approving the option to join Atlanta United through a homegrown signing, Asensio is a key full-back to Clemson’s national championship and will provide Gives breadth to a team with both defensive ability and creative skill.

Midfielder:

Mohamed Omar (Notre Dame Cathedral)

A young Canadian from Toronto, Omar is a gifted midfielder who played over 1700 minutes for Notre Dame last season and scored four goals while helping Ireland reach four finals. It’s unclear where Omar will be taken, with mocking drafts featuring him all over the first round, but he is clearly seen as a talent.

Ben Bender (Maryland)

The Big Ten Midfielder of the Year 2021 has scored nine goals and five assists in two seasons at Maryland, but it is his two-way play that has earned plaudits, and he has could advance in the draft among a slim midfield group.

Sofiane Djeffal (Oregon State)

Pac-12 Player of the Year catapulted Oregon State to #1 nationally for the first time in program history en route to the Pac-12 title. Djeffal was at the heart of that sublimation, scoring five goals and adding five assists. Hailing from France, the young Nantes product will occupy a spot in the international squad that could influence his draft spot.

Justin Rasmussen (Grand Canyon)

Voted a top 50 player by Top Drawer Soccer, Rasmussen has scored nine times for the Grand Canyon this past season. While the roster fell to an eventual defeat in the first round of the NCAA, Rasmussen stood out. He is a left winger who can move to the wing if needed.

Striker:

Isaiah Parker (Saint Louis)

A rudimentary, high-form player, Parker left Saint Louis on a senior-generation adidas contract after just one season in which he scored three goals and assisted seven, demonstrating unsurpassed pace in his career. this progress.

Kyle Holcomb (Wake Forest)

An experienced, do-it-all striker who was not only ruthless in front of the net but contributed in all areas of the pitch, Holcomb was the lead on the field for a strong Wake Forest program. Holcomb has scored 33 goals in four years as a Deac and contributed as much to the defense as he scored. The term “clinical” is often used to describe him, and for good reason.

Ousseni Bouda (Stanford)

As a Pac-12 First Team member last year, Bouda missed the shortened COVID-19 season due to injury but returned with glory. A native of Burkina Faso and a product of Ghana’s Right to Dream Academy, Bouda has scored 10 goals and assisted another 14 in 39 games during his career at Stanford.

Thor Ulfarsson (Duke)

Consistently appearing and plaguing the ACC defense, Ulfarsson has scored 19 goals in 24 games for Duke over two seasons, including 15 in the last campaign. The Icelandic-born was a former All-American First Team and a true target up front.

Farai Mutatu (Michigan State)

Moving from Zimbabwe in 2006 to Michigan, the Mutatu is a wide player, offers good speed and service and can be a snappy pickup. Mutatu has had his time in the lower divisions of American football and can be placed in a number of positions, including as a No 10 or a full-back.
