Mitsubishi Triton sets record for third best sales month ever in February

The Mitsubishi Triton had its best sales month since June 2018, thanks to a large shipment of cars coming in to meet increased demand.

Not only did sales increase by nearly 1000 compared to January 2022 and increase by 116.4% in the same period in 2021, the 3811 deliveries recorded were enough to place Triton third on the overall sales rankings.

It is currently under the heel of Ford Ranger and Toyota Hilux on a 4×4 sales chart based on annual sales

It’s the third best month Triton 4 × 4 and 4 × 2 utes was achieved in Australia, behind June 2018 (sales 3919) and June 2014 (sales 4124).

It’s worth noting that both previous records line up at the end of the fiscal year, traditionally a big month for commercial vehicles.

A Mitsubishi spokesperson said the big month (along with the smaller months before it) was driven by “severe supply fluctuations”, and represents large shipments of Triton that fell at the end of 2021 being delivered. for customers.

Triton’s February sales consisted mostly of 4×4 models. Of the 3811 units sold, only 350 were the less expensive, more fleet-focused 4×2 model.

The current generation Triton is nearing the end of its life cycle. We’re expecting the next-gen model to surface in 2022 or early 2023, and we’ve already tested it in northern Sweden.

While its sheet metal looks familiar, with the Mirage headlights on the current-generation bodywork, this mule’s wheelbase and track look different.

The redesigned Triton is expected to share the platform with the next Nissan Navara and could offer a plug-in hybrid on the track.

The diesel launch model, which has taken on much more importance here for now, has been reported to launch in late 2022 or 2023.

Mitsubishi Australia says it has also been involved in the new Triton project from the very beginning.

“Triton is a really important product for us, and it is a really important product for MMC globally, so we were on that project from day one,” said the head of the company. Head of Mitsubishi Australia’s product strategy, said Owen Thomson CarExpert last year.

“It’s all about specification, even to the styling level. We’ve had several trips to Japan to review the styling model and have had input on that,” he said.
