Leidos partners with Accenture to deliver CDC cloud modernization
Accenture Federal Services is bringing in Leidos, which provides engineering, science and technology services to the defense, intelligence, civilian and medical markets, to support cloud migration efforts cloud for the US Centers for Disease Control.
WHY IT IMPORTANT
CDC awarded a three-year, $189 million contract in October 2022 to address its IT systems and bring advanced legacy systems into a more secure cloud environment.
Leidos will provide application streamlining, project initiation and planning, application maintenance, and other efforts for one year with additional options.
Migration to the cloud is expected to improve CDC’s collection, validation, analysis, forecasting, and decision-making of public health data.
“We are proud to support this mission and CDC’s work to protect the health of the American people,” Liz Porter, president of Leidos Health Group, said in the announcement.
TREND TO BIGGER WOMAN
Accenture and Reston, Leidos based in Virginia have expertise in technology, healthcare and systems infrastructure and have worked together before.
Together with Henry Schein On and others, they developed and are implementing the U.S. Department of Defense electronic health record system, the Genesis Military Health System. MHS Genesis is expected to be rolled out to all garrison facilities by the end of the year.
Cloud technology provides healthcare agencies, providers, and other organizations with a way to simplify and secure operations so they can access data when and where it is needed.
For the CDC, digital transformation could enhance their work by studying things like vaccine effectiveness in hospitalized patients and disease incidence.

“We’re excited to partner with Accenture’s Federal Service and support CDC’s digital modernization journey,” Porter said in the statement. “Through our experience and technical expertise in migrating legacy systems, Leidos will accelerate CDC performance and execution.”
