Latest details on the new and upcoming expansion Amex Centurion Lounge

American Express spent several years building a premium network and very popular, Centurion lounges at airports nationwide and beyond.

An expanded lounge is opening in 2022, but it’s a big lounge. The Much-needed renovation at San Francisco International Airport (SFO) opened just before the new year, on December 31. In addition, the publisher opened two new Centurion Studios, at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) and Columbus John Glenn International Airport (CMH), early 2022.

Other new lounges in recent years include outposts in Denver International Airport (DEN), Heathrow Airport (LHR) and New York LaGuardia Airport (LGA)as well as a expansion at Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) in Las Vegas.

But Amex is not resting on its laurels.

Here are the latest details and opening dates for the most anticipated upcoming Centurion Lounges. However, please note that these opening dates are subject to change.

Upcoming Centurion Lounge

Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA)

Expected opening date: 2023

Amex has confirmed that a Brand new Centurion Lounge will open at this time Washington DC, airport. It will be built in the new National Hall near Terminal B once the airport’s $1 billion capital improvement program is completed.

Located next to the plane, the 11,500 square foot space will be on the larger side for the Centurion Lounge. Expect floor-to-ceiling windows, airport views, and unique, locally inspired design touches.

Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL)

Expected opening date: 2024

Atlanta will eventually be home to the world’s largest Centurion Lounge. At 26,000 square feet, the space will hopefully be large enough to accommodate all those travelers who qualify through one of the world’s busiest airports.

The Atlanta space will also be home to a number of unique amenities, including multiple outdoor terraces and design elements influenced by the city’s local landscape and Southern culture. Travelers can look forward to a full buffet spread, as well as a bourbon-focused bar — the Centurion Lounge for the first time.

The new facility will be in Concourse E. All airport lounges are connected to the post-security system by a metro train, so any passenger departing or connecting can visit the Centurion Lounge before their flight out of ATL.

Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR)

Expected opening date: Unknown

Amex plans to build Centurion Lounge here New York City airport. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which oversees the area’s airports, Amex has just been awarded a lease in New Terminal A.

Some of the recommended amenities include an outdoor terrace overlooking the airport, with views of Newark Harbor and the Manhattan skyline. Guests can also look forward to the piano lounge, Jersey-themed jazz bar, and speakeasy-inspired cocktail lounge.

In addition, Amex is also proposing to install wellness rooms, workstations, multiple buffets and what it calls “world-class” sanitation facilities.

Upcoming Centurion Lounge expansion

Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA)

Expected opening date: Early 2023

Through the The Seattle expansion is supposed to to be completed by the end of 2022, the opening has been delayed to early 2023.

Amex’s existing Seattle lounge opened for the first time as a “Centurion Studio” store. It was expanded once, but it’s still overloaded.

Fortunately, the publisher is build a brand new outpost on the mezzanine level of Central Station to replace the existing concourse.

The best part? At more than 13,800 square feet, this new space will be three times larger than the old lounge. Other amenities include improved views of the airport and the Olympic Mountains, more restrooms, phone booths and cozy corners.

Upcoming Centurion Studio locations

In July 2021, Amex network rebranding Centurion Lounge with two major implications.

The first is that the international Centurion Lounges have been folded into the larger “Centurion Lounges” network, although these locations (with the exception of those in Hong Kong and London) offer an airport lounge experience more basic.

Secondly, Amex is currently in the process of rebranding and refreshing some Escape Lounge locations in the US with the new “Escape Lounges – The Centurion Studio Partner” concept.

In general, Exit Lounges are located at secondary, smaller airports (but there are exceptions, such as Phoenix). As this network of Escape Lounges grows, Amex premium cardholders will have more lounges to enjoy.

Two new Centurion Studios opening in 2022 in Fort Lauderdale and Columbus, Ohioand we will update this story as additional locations are announced.

How to access the Amex Centurion Lounge network

Customers can access Centurion Lounge by flashing Platinum Card® from American Express, Business Platinum® Card from American Express or Centurion Card from American Express.

Platinum cardholders can bring up to two guests in the lounge, though Guest policy is changing on February 1, 2023.

Delta SkyMiles® Reserve American Express Card Cardholders also get free use of Centurion Lounge when flying Delta with a ticket purchased on any American Express card issued in the US You will be able to bring up to two guests for a fee of $50 each.
