Lamborghini’s first electric car will be a coupe with room for four people

The recent appearance of Lamborghini Revuelto is a big deal, as this is Sant’Agata’s first truly new flagship supercar in 12 years. It is also the brand’s first plug-in hybrid. Naturally, Lamborghini is working hard to create a proper battery-powered model that is expected to launch in 2028. Thank you to our friends at Motorcycle AuthorityWe now have some understanding of what that might look like.

In case you lost it:

Lamborghini’s goal is to provide 300 miles of range on a full charge with “comfortable” rear seats, based on what Lamborghini Director of Marketing and Sales Federico Foschini told Motor Authority’s Joel Feder at the 2023 New York International Auto Show. This follows the opinion of CEO Stephan Winkelman to Motor1 week ago that the as-yet-unnamed EV will be a big 2+2 traveler. “What’s missing from today’s lineup is the GT 2+2,” Winkman said. tell Motor1“And I think this will be a good addition to the two super sports cars and SUVs.”

In an interview with Motor Authority, Foschini explained that the company had landed on 300 miles is the EV’s range goal to reduce range anxiety. That shouldn’t be difficult to achieve in five years’ time, given how much battery technology is improving, but Foschini added that Lamborghini not interested in bringing the product to market before the customer group is ready for it. As he told Motor Authority:

Foschini says the minimum EV driving range goal today seems to be just over 300 miles. “This is what you need because it is an all-electric vehicle,” said the CEO. “You have no alternate scope.” Foschini notes that customers need to be reassured that they will have enough range for long-distance travel.

The CMO also notes that the range number will depend on the mode you’re driving in.

The lack of access to charge meThe infrastructure and fast charging speeds concern Lamborghini’s executive team so much that they feel it would benefit them to wait for other companies to solve these problems. That’s one reason the car is five years away from production.

Lamborghini is clearly scoping out a complete range of vehicles here, which makes sense. SUVs have emerged as big winner for luxury brands and outstanding performanceand it’s reasonable to expect electric cars to follow in their footsteps. Foschino told Motor Authority he imagines a Revuelto owner might decide they need something more practical for their next purchase, at which point the Lambo is coming. The EV grand tourer seems like the right choice. Lamborghini wanted the car’s rear seats to be usable for adults as well as children, even if the second row didn’t provide the same amount of space for the driver and front passenger.

It was unbelievable to me that it was 15 years since we witnessed Lamborghini’s final offering for a more epic tour car, car Estoque (top picture). That concept has four doors of course, but it still looks incredibly impressive and feels like it belongs in the same family as Gallardo and Murciélago. You have to calculate a harsh economy – not to mention everything that happened between Porsche and Volkswagen around that time – likely to have something to do with canceled in 2009 of that project. Now there seems to be a better timing for a low-riding Lambo with four seats.
