Super flyweights David Jimenez and John Ramirez fought for the WBA interim divisional title on Saturday night at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. The 13-0 Ramirez opened the scoring by falling to the mat against the 15-1 Jimenez right after the opening bell. Both men then battled to control the range as well as the tempo in the first round. The second bout was a pretty high-octane bout, with the fighters getting involved on the inside. Things were fine in the third round, although Jimenez may have been the more aggressive of the two. The fighters went back to grinding on the inside in the fourth round.

The fifth game, like most games up to that point, was difficult to score. Because fighters often fight in close quarters, it is often difficult to know who throws the more effective punches. In it was a messy but exciting match. The fighters are still working hard in the sixth round. Will the battle decide who has more gas? Jimenez went down early in round seven, although the fight quickly resumed. Although this chapter is generally similar to the others, Jimenez seems to have gotten more notable scenes.

Ramirez’s face looked worse for wear in round eight. While he may have entered the ring as the betting favorite, Jimenez now appears to have control of the tempo. The ninth featured Ramirez getting the action but also taking shots from Jimenez. Both men looked worse for wear in round ten. Their fight simply proved to be a brutal one that never really slowed down. Ramirez continued to fight fiercely while Jimenez leaned on his opponent when possible. Penultimate round Jimenez held while Ramirez fought to get inside. It was starting to look like a fight from the early 1900s. However, in the final minute of the round, Jimenez hit Ramirez with the ropes.

The twelfth and final round indicated that Jimenez was simply too strong for Ramirez in the end. His punches and physicality left an impression that Ramirez’s gutsy, bloody performance did not.
