In a confrontation that often lacks congressional procedure, Chris Eubank Jr bolstered his argument that he can’t lose to Conor Benn by vowing to quit the sport if it happens on October 8.
Hosted by Ade Oladipo of DAZN, the couple sat facing each other to discuss their upcoming war. It will be competitive at 157lbs – meaning the less experienced man in Benn will have to increase the weight, and the more experienced in Eubank faces a tough cut.
Despite that, Eubank repeatedly shot down Benn’s chances in teamfights. How sure that he is he wins? He is willing to put his career first.
“I told you – if he works miracles and beats me… I have to retire. So that’s a lot of pressure. I never said this. “
“An act of God is what it will do for you [Benn] to beat me. “
“I’ve always been a keeper of my word, so that’s another reason why this is personal – because I love being a boxer, I love the sport of boxing. I don’t want it to end”.
“If you [Benn] do the magic, i will give you full credit. Now I am telling you, if you beat me, I give you full credit and I will give up the sport. So it’s not an excuse. I believe it’s impossible for you to get close to me. Or prove me wrong.”
Elsewhere in Face Off, Benn tells Eubank he’s going to step into the ring and ‘take it straight’ to him. Eubank was skeptical.
“When you have a murderer, a barbarian, a barbarian in front of you, you can’t fight him like you fight Chris Algieri.”
The war started where their father had left. Chris Eubank Sr and Nigel Benn fought twice in the 1990s – one knockout win for Eubank and the other a split draw. The revival of this rivalry will be broadcast live on DAZN PPV from a sold-out London O2 Arena.
