Joe Joyce: Joshua has been very lucky with his career
World heavyweight title contender Joe Joyce has described Anthony Joshua’s career as “lucky”.
The undefeated 36-year-old is in Las Vegas preparing for his next bout, rumored to be Joseph Parker, but Joshua has been the name of particular attention during a recent debate on social media with ‘ AJ’.
Joshua will be looking to become a three-time heavyweight champion when he faces Oleksandr Usyk this summer in a rematch from September 2021 that the Briton lost.
Joyce told the Daily Mail: “Once the fight is on, I want to fight the winner.
“I think AJ will be a bigger fight – especially if he wins. If Usyk wins, it’s definitely a big fight. Maybe I’ll fight both of them! I’m not going to retire anytime soon.”
Normally, Joyce is a calm and laid-back character, especially having engaged in a war of words with Joshua last month and told the Olympic gold medalist, “You’ve been given it all.”
“I think he’s been very lucky with his career,” Joyce said.
“Things went well for him but at a cost. He got ahead very quickly but then fell back when fighting Ruiz. People have seen the void in him and have seen that he is not an indestructible specimen.”
“He has endorsements, everything. It was his own job. He fits the suit package and presents a very corporate image. It was a boon for him and he took advantage of it. At the same time, he gives himself a personality that may not be true to his own.
“I will win – for the knockout. Hopefully that fight will be successful and we don’t get all the speculators around it. Let’s start. ”
