It’s been a great season for PlayStation gaming, and there are still exciting experiences to come. We’ve had a chance to get hands-on with some of Team 17’s upcoming indie titles, and these are the games you should be looking for during those hectic summer days.
Move Out 2
If you’re looking to play a fun couch co-op or an online game to chill out, then Move Out 2 is the game not to be missed. The guys from Devm Games and SMG Studio decided to introduce double the content of the original title, adding new gameplay mechanics such as arranging furniture, objects that can’t fit in specific doors (already there), and hidden items that unlock a diverse cast of characters representing race, gender, and accessibility. The biggest improvement comes from the weird dimensions you go to, which have different rules when moving. Whether it’s the wobbly rooms of a giant propped up hotel or the tough situations caused by the size of the candy, as you grapple with items, the PS5’s DualSense wireless controller’s adaptive trigger responds similarly, adding more real-world flavor when trying to twist an item with a friend who thinks you just need to twist it further.

blasphemy 2
Another powerhouse sequel, Blasphemous 2, is a challenging 2D exploration adventure that takes place after the events of Wounds of Eventide. The developers at The Game Kitchen have created a beautiful hand-drawn-like art style that adds personality to the stoic protagonist. No matter how uncompromising combat may be, the combination of haptic feedback and adaptive triggering helps sell the adrenaline rush in battle. You can feel the incoming attacks of a boss, the thrust of deflecting an attack and of course, the movement of your weapon, these vary depending on which weapon is selected at the start of the game. You’ll be rewarded with truly immersive combat if you want to test your reflexes in a dark yet beautiful world.

Gord is an interesting mix of genres from previous Frostpunk and The Witcher 3 developers – Covenant.dev – to bring Slavic folklore into the mainstream. At its core, it is a town building simulation game with a combination of population management and survival mechanics. It’s a bleak title not for the faint of heart, but the trials and tribulations you have to go through to keep your village alive are fascinating. Everything from dealing with monsters lurking in the shadows to sending people out to do dangerous jobs for the benefit of the masses. Combine that with dealing with the mental trauma of the villagers caused by your actions and outside forces is a tough business to manage, but the drive to keep things working and your people alive makes this an unexpectedly emotional journey.

Classifieds: France ’44
Bringing to light the little-known story of Allied special forces sent to weaken the opposition in the weeks leading up to D-Day, Classified: France ’44 is an evolution of the modern strategy game from the developers at Absolute Games. No two gameplay will be the same as the quests you have access to will vary depending on who you recruit, the skills you learn and the success of each mission. Beyond the endless possibilities of story progression, the gameplay is a protracted game of spirit management, weapons, reloading, troop placement, and abilities. Changing mission objectives, enemy reinforcements, and even your skills to remain undetected or uneven affects the unpredictability of war and the strategy to adapt to it.
