Volatile Filly, authentic Colt turns heads at Timonium


In terms of eye-catching time, one Evaporation daughter and one Real colt was prominent among the colts who appeared at the show under management May 14 ahead of the Fasig-Tipton Midlantic 2-year-old training sale.

Juveniles classified as Hips 1-200 appeared Tuesday on the fast track at Timonium. Hips 201-400 are scheduled to take place on Wednesday, starting at 8 a.m. ET, with Hips 401-585 scheduled for Thursday starting at the same time.

Eight workers took part in Tuesday morning’s proceedings, a volatile girl classed as the Hip 12 who showed an effective stride and appeared light on her feet as she launched a long distance in :10 flats, which would be considered the fastest eight miles of the session.

Commissioned by Hartley/de Renzo Thoroughbreds, the chestnut mare is out of the two-placed stakes mare Exchange Rate, which has produced three winners from as many starters, including Grit and Curiosity at level 2, a mare Macho Uno gelation. Exchange Cat is the half-sister of two bettors.

Bred in Kentucky by Newtownanner Stud Farm, the filly was sold to Hartley/de Renzo last year for $230,000 at the Keeneland September Yearling Sale, where she was consigned by agent Blake- Albina Thoroughbred Services. She entered the Ocala Breeders’ spring sale of 2-year-olds in training.

Hartley/de Renzo, the agents, will start on Tuesday, as later in the morning a long-striding Authentic colt they consigned registered a fastest quarter-mile time of: 21 1/ 5. Bred in Florida by Bridlewood Farm, the colt (Hip 59) was out of Grade 1 Uncle Mo mare gomo as a 2-year-old won the 2015 Alcibiades Stakes (G1) at Keeneland.

Leading sire Authentic, offspring of the five-time leading sire into mischief won the 2020 Kentucky Derby (G1) and Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1) to earn Horse of the Year honors.

Hartley/de Renzo spent $300,000 to purchase the colt at last year’s Keeneland September sale, where he was consigned by @Bridlewood Farm (Gainesway dealer). He failed to reach his reserve at the OBS March 2-Year-Old Training Sale after a top price of $385,000.

Four teens complete a stretch in: 10 1/5 seconds Tuesday: Hip 10, daughter of Liam’s map ; Hip 46, freshman son Thousands of words ; Hip 83, Uncle Mo’s daughter; and Hip 187, son of Good magic .
