Ikelite announces housing for Canon EOS M50 Mark II

Ikelite announced new housing for Canon’s entry-level mirrorless cameras EOS M50 Mark II. The original M50 became Canon’s best-selling mirrorless camera in the U.S. market, and the Mark II included only very minor changes — in regards to vlogs and eye-detection autofocus — with little impact on users. underwater shooting.

The new case is therefore compatible with both M50 and M50 II, but Ikelite has changed the package compared to original M50 housing: In keeping with the company’s new formulation for other enclosures, the M50 II case no longer includes an integrated TTL circuit; instead, you now have the option to add DL5 DS Link TTL . Converter—Which includes baffles and hotshoe — if you will. Notably, this has allowed the home’s price to drop to just $775, which is $320 less than the launch price of its predecessor. This also means that if you want to capture your strobe in manual mode, you only have to add the baffle and hotshoe.

Housing, on the other hand, offers a full range of features: ABS-PC blend body; The DLM/A “Dry Lock” port system is optimized for Canon EF-M lenses (as well as EF and EF-S lenses with adapters); and responsive shutter release, soft-touch buttons and hard anodized aluminum buttons. You have the option of adding a viewfinder and/or a vacuum cleaner.

New housing available now from retailers like Backscatter.

200DLM/A Underwater Case for Canon EOS M50, M50 II, Kiss M Mirrorless Digital Camera

Compact, professional-grade waterproof case for Canon EOS M50, EOS M50 Mark II and EOS Kiss M mirrorless digital cameras. The system is perfect for any application in or around water. from scuba diving to surfing to swimming pools. This case replaces the previous model for the EOS M50 Mark I #6973.15.

Control and Ergonomics

Trigger-type shutter lever control is designed for optimal sensitivity and natural movement when shooting underwater. The standard controls hug the side of the case for a comfortable grip. The boom can be easily extended using the optional Shutter Trigger Extension #4077.95 for a more comfortable reach when using the grip.

Soft-touch buttons are easy to grip with or without gloves on and provide quick access to important controls including front and rear dials and mode controls.

Hard anodized aluminum pushbuttons are extremely lightweight and resistant to salt build-up and corrosion. The back of the case features laser-engraved control symbols that will never fade or fall off.

Camera settings

Camera holder at the front for easy installation and disassembly. A small mounting plate attaches to the bottom of the camera and is fixed to the front of the case. There is no need to remove the camera mount plate from the camera for surface use or when replacing batteries or memory cards. The mounting plate has a 1/4-20 threaded mount on the bottom so it can be mounted to a surface tripod.

Lens options

High-quality yet affordable optics are available for a wide range of lenses from wide-angle to macro fisheyes. Our custom optical grade acrylic domes provide the color, clarity and durability of glass at a fraction of the weight and cost. Glass flat port is available for macro lenses.

The DLM gate system is designed to be durable enough for heavy surfing and to provide reliability in remote locations. Lens port attaches without twisting, threading or complicated mechanisms.

Lens port sold separately. A compatible lens port is required for waterproof use. View DLM/A Port Diagram (PDF)

Viewfinder

The included Supereye viewfinder provides an enhanced view of the camera’s electronic viewfinder when viewing through a diving mask.

Get the brightest and sharpest view on your camera’s OLED EVF by adding the optional Magnifying Viewfinder. The Supereye is quick and easy to attach to the Straight Magnifying Viewfinder #6890 or the Magnifying Viewfinder 45° (Type 1) #6891.1.

The camera’s large, super-bright LCD screen is viewable through the back of the case and can be tilted before it is attached to the case for better visibility underwater.

Attach accessories

Two 1/4-20 threaded mounting points are included on the bottom of the case for mounting trays and handles. The handle offers improved ergonomics underwater and is the foundation for your light mount.

If you are shooting with two strobe or illuminators, a top grip can be added to carry to and from the dive site. Top Handle is available in Cable Handle #4080.07 or Aluminum Top Grip #4080.08. The sturdy aluminum version provides additional mounting points for lights and accessories.

Seal and vacuum test

There’s nothing more secure than being able to see your camera and o-ring seal through the back of the case. Our signature open-groove design that hangs the rear o-ring in a natural position is easier to maintain and more reliable than tying the o-ring to a channel. Once the cap is closed, you can see that the o-ring forms a solid, waterproof seal.

A spare 1/2-20 threaded accessory port is provided on the side of the housing for easy installation Optional Vacuum Kit #47012. A metered hand pump allows you to vacuum over the housing. to simulate water pressure and check for leaks before entering the water.

Each unit is pressure tested to 200 feet (60m) before it leaves our facility in Indianapolis.

Corrosion-free Durability and Performance

The custom ABS-PC composite housing provides power and performance year after year with minimal maintenance. ABS-PC material is essentially corrosion resistant and significantly lighter than aluminum. Specially formulated color deflects the sun to keep your camera running longer, cooler. Compared to a black or clear case, the bright color provides superior contrast to enhance the view of the camera, LCD monitor and o-ring seal.

Optional flashing connection

The camera can trigger external strobe lights by adding Baffle B1A #46002 and Canon C1 Hotshoe (Manual) #46071. Reliable locking connectors between the hotshoe and baffle make it easy to install the hotshoe or carry it around. spare parts when moving to remote locations. This combination only provides manual exposure using the strobe source setting(s).

Enjoy the fastest and most accurate strobe exposure on the market by adding DL5 DS Link Canon TTL Converter B1A Baffle and CT1 TTL Hotshoe Kit #46076 and a compatible Ikelite DS blinker. DS Link can be programmed to the specific TTL protocol of the camera and supports syncing of both front and rear blinds with the camera’s maximum flash sync speed. In-camera exposure compensation can be added or subtracted. A push button and indicator light on the side of the converter makes it easy to switch between TTL and manual underwater exposure.

The built-in flash cannot be used in this setting. Fiber optic strobe trigger is not supported at this time.

The light is constantly on

The continuously lit video light can be used in place of or in addition to the flash. The continuous light is not as bright as the flash. Constantly on lights provide extra versatility as they can be used to aid focus and improve color when recording video.

Light is absorbed when it travels short distances underwater, making colors appear dim or monochromatic. To preserve the natural colors of your subject, it’s important to stay within arm’s reach — no more than 3-4 feet (1m) away.

There is a simple rule that the brighter the water, the better. High-quality lighting can produce magazine-quality results with almost any camera system.

Compatibility

The difference in lens and controller placement prevents other Canon cameras from being used in this case. The Canon EOS M50 is not compatible with any other Ikelite camera models.

This case is only compatible with Canon EOS M50, EOS M50 Mark II and EOS Kiss M cameras that are factory-made by the manufacturer. Unless otherwise noted, this case is not suitable for use with additional clamps, battery grips, eyepieces, LCD caps or other accessories.

Optional accessories

Adding an external strobe or video light enhances the color and sharpness of your underwater photos. If you shoot below 30 ft (10m) or in an indoor pool, your photo will be mostly blue without any artificial light. Read more about flashing options
