I’m happy to say that my hair is pretty healthy too, considering the journey a natural brunette like me has to go through to get there. We’ve all seen how celebs can seemingly go from black to blonde in the blink of an eye (if they don’t wear a wig) but in reality it’s a long process, possibly. too much to handle if you’re impatient.
Celebrity hairstylist and founder of #Mydentity Sugar Guy says that the biggest mistake people make when they want to dye their hair blonde is thinking they can go from dark brown to platinum in one go. “Blonde takes time,” he says. “If you rush, you will ruin your hair and have a bronze color. Let your stylist do it right and you will have a beautiful blonde color.”
After you achieve your dream blonde color, there are some maintenance tips to keep in mind. Touch-up, for one, is key. Because my hair grows fast, my stylist (screams Gina Atkinson in Moef shop!) didn’t want me to have to go through eight weeks to check again. “If you have highlights or global blonde hair all the way to the roots, a retouch every four to six weeks is a good standard to go for. This ensures your roots don’t overgrow,” explains Tang. He says that for this blonde look, if the hairline is 1.5 inches or more, it will be difficult to get an even blonde color in one care, but if you have a maintenance blonde low, you can leave as long as four months before getting a touch-up.
