“He’s gone missing!” – Eubank Jr hasn’t heard from his father since Benn announced it
Chris Eubank Jr wants his dad in the corner with coach Roy Jones Jr as he faces Conor Benn – but has yet to be questioned by the British legend.
Tell The Breakfast Show on talkSPORT, Eubank Jr sensationally revealed he hasn’t spoken to Chris Eubank Sr since “the biggest battle of his career” was announced earlier this week. However, he quickly clarified that they hadn’t fallen out yet.
“I don’t know if he wants to be in the corner. That’s the question. So we have to find out where his head is with that, and from there we’ll decide what to do.”
“Ever since the fight was announced, I haven’t really heard from him. You know, it’s amazing to say, especially earlier in my career, he was there and at the center of all my games. In the biggest game of my career, he went missing. It’s hard to believe, but that’s what happened.”
“I waited for that phone call. I’m waiting for him to walk through the door and say ‘okay son, let’s do this.’
Interestingly enough, he’s been given a lot of talk about pairing up with the great Roy Jones Jr which seems to be on pause for what is sure to be one of the most hyped tidbits of the year.
It is unclear whether Jones Jr and Eubank Sr will be able to share the responsibility or one will be absent altogether. When asked about the situation, ‘Next Gen’ stopped and chose his words carefully.
“It is…still undecided. With this kind of fighting, I really want my old man to be in the same corner as me. I told Roy he would stay inside for the rest of my career. This is the only battle where I’ll leave my old man there, just because it makes complete sense to us. “
Eubank Jr, who used to fight super-high, continues to discuss his weight honestly. The weight of the match is set at 157lbs, with hefty fines and the possibility of being canceled if missed. The Sussex-born boxer said he hasn’t seen those numbers on the scale since he was 18.
“Is it anxiety? I guess you could say the same. It’s more of a challenge. I’ll make that weight, it’s just how hard it will be. “
“I think I’m about 170 [lbs] right away. The problem is that I have a very low body fat percentage.”
“It will be very painful. It will hurt.”
Whatever you think of the game, set on October 8 at The O2 Arena in London, one thing’s for sure – the sight is undeniable. First, before starting to cut and increase profits, Eubank Jr and Benn will meet face-to-face at today’s press conference.
Who will sit with Chris Eubank Jr? Fans can watch the press conference live on DAZN and DAZN’s YouTube channel from 1pm to find out.
