Matthew “Lefty Gunz” Gonzalez 12-0-1 vs fellow 8-1 Welterweight Terrell Bostic on Thursday night at the Sony Theater in New York City. The match took place according to the eight-round schedule. Bostic looked very flexible and powerful in the opening round. However, Gonzalez found his form in the next two innings. It was a close-up skirmish without a doubt, but it looked like Bostic was being attacked by the stronger Gonzalez. Bostic had his moments in the fourth inning, but Gonzalez did some strong work thanks to powerful punches and a sharp jab to the south.
Bostic was thrown to the carpet by Gonzalez in the fifth minute, but it was from a toss, not a punch. Slowing the tempo down a bit in the sixth round, Bostic probably let Gonzalez down a bit as he was able to effectively land and stop his men from launching a serious attack. Bostic continued to deliver a series of powerful body shots in the seventh inning. It looks like the fight could start in Bostic’s favor. The eighth and final round saw Bostic continue to exercise his fitness with quick, accurate punches. On the other hand, Gonzalez tried to hit powerful shots to help him win (by decision or by knockout). After the fight is over, it’s hard to say who the judges will nod to.
However, in the end, Gonzalez won through unanimous decision with the scores 78-74, 77-75, 77-75.
