HATERS (PRO AND OTHER) || FIGHTHYPE.COM

NOTES FROM HARMFUL: HARMFUL PEOPLE (PRO AND OTHER)

Wasn’t it predictable that Gervonta Davis’ recent pay-per-view purchase rate would become a matter of contention among social media battle fans?

Unless you have a monetary interest in the event in question, there’s no reason for you to care much about a specific pay-per-view purchase volume– unless you’re using children number to promote any kind of agenda you may have.

And, man, the agenda is rich in the online Universo Pugilistico!

Rick Glaser, a self-described “International Agent, Broker & Consultant” who has recently built some momentum in his career as a huge voice on the internet Anti-Al Haymon/PBC society, was the first to report any Gervonta Davis-Hector Luis Garcia sales numbers. And, of course, those numbers are as low as 61,000. In his estimation, this is positive proof that “#PBC is a very toxic brand, [There are] Too much PBC PPV junk. #TankDavis [is] not a PPV Star and #Boxing fans have lost faith in #Showtime.”

Anti-PBC/Haymon/Davis people run after his numbers.

Then conflicting information emerged– some through reporting from trusted, independent journalists like Insider’s Al Dawson– giving Tank Davis pay-per-view sales figures for the week. around 200-225K.

The anti-PBC/Haymon/Davis people will run with THAT numbers.

Who cares? Really.

What is of concern, however, is the damage behind so much focused, purposeful doubt/negativity/hate being intentionally injected into the sport’s drinking water.

Glaser is not a journalist/reporter and he has never identified himself as a journalist/reporter. On the contrary, he identifies himself as an industry insider, so it immediately jeopardizes his disclosure strategy as someone with a horse in the race and a definite interest in it. tilting public opinion in one direction or another.

You also can’t blame the fans for muddying the water. Fans will be fans and, while it would be better for them to understand things better before arguing about them online, their mission is not to be anything other than consumers or not consumers of boxing products.

The real culprit in boxing’s negative atmosphere is its media.

What can I say about the boxing media that I haven’t said, that hasn’t gotten me blacklisted by the boxing media yet?

Well, from firsthand experience, I know that they absolutely HATE being subject to reporting and taking any responsibility. I have a library of angry emails from media members and screenshots of nasty anti-Magno dishes on social media to prove that point. I also have a library of private emails and messages from media members disparaging other media members to prove that many of them are not really brave in nature or steadfast in their fields. integrity.

In fact, I first started writing about boxing and stepped out into the actual boxing world, around 2007 or so, after I went online and saw the terrible boxing media. and how it was violated. I just couldn’t believe what was going on in the world of internet boxing media. I feel compelled to rush in to try to do something or at least offer some perspective. I have seen the damage this compromised media does to the sport and its establishment.

Many members of the media have openly flaunted their conflicts of interest, bragging about the gifts they have received from journalists and advertising agencies. Some shared snapshots of them drinking and dining at the mansions of big promoters. And these favors, of course, just happen to match the positive news for supporters.

I like to think that my unwanted appearances at the scene and my semi-regular piglets at the Trough, where I document suspicious media behavior, have something to do with the this person at least feels a little embarrassed and discards their feat. public eye.

To me, none of the guys are as scary as Steve Kim, who has taken on the ground floor of internet boxing coverage and continues to present himself as more of a disruptor than a mutant. break. With his characteristically feminine curt voice, his cynical attitude, and indifference to being violated (or guided by his own obvious racial prejudice), he smugly makes a noise. echo for a media where morality is a joke because, damn, this is just boxing.

Kim was the Babe Ruth of partisan negativity targeted in the boxing media and his impact is still felt today, even though his “journalistic” reach is limited term in a Victor Conte/SNAC newsletter and a podcast with the guy Saved by Bell. However, many of the swashbucklers Kim has mentored over the years, directly or indirectly, are still injecting public debate with agenda-driven analysis that is no different. cloud the water and create discord. And the fans who believed in that dirty journalism style helped spread the bullshit.

But Kim and his faction in the black pond aren’t the only ones providing agenda-driven negativity.

The so-called “new media”, in the form of YouTube video producers and those who will become social media influencers, is also guilty of being the enemy of truth and integrity. integrity of the press in the world of boxing, as well as with a growing racial order. bias based is added for good measure. It could be said that these types of “new media” represent an equal and opposite response to the push of the other side, but they are equally harmful nonetheless.

Believe it or not, the boxing media is getting better, or at least working harder to play the role of journalists. However, many who are also “respectable” experts have purposefully excluded me from public discussion and still refuse to acknowledge my existence for reporting on their colleagues. So when they speak on social media about “this is how journalists are supposed to do things,” they know that their story carries a glaring bullshit to those of us who understand better.

However, lip service is better than no service. Towards the end of life, a malleable journalism ethic is better than “Hey guys, I just got back from a backpacking trip to Puerto Rico, all expenses covered by High Rank, now let me tell you at Why is this High Rated card so great and why is that opponent’s promo card shit.

Today, it feels like fans are fed up with the me-and-you bickering supported by Glaser, Kim, Kim’s disciples, and “new media” spoofs. Fans are sick of “reporting” according to the agenda.

It’s hard to make a living in boxing media without wandering into areas where your work could be impacted. Boxingscene is owned by Paramount, which considers Showtime a subsidiary. Ring/Ring TV magazine is owned by Golden Boy. DAZN controls the media operations and has many media members on its “associate” and “affiliate” lists. The highest ratings are tied to ESPN. Damn, I do freelance fighting previews for PBC. The business, with its overemphasis on industry access and money, readily accepts reciprocal agreements, whether spoken or not.

Being compromised is a choice, though. Putting your compromised self on social media to use agendas for your own benefit and/or entertainment is an option. You are NOT a shit head.

And fans MUST NOT pay attention to the half-truths, half-truths, and damn weird stereotypes/personal flaws/politics that emerge through boxing talk. Ultimately, it’s the fan’s choice to ignore the madness and bullshit, instead of getting drawn into shitty shit.

People talk a lot about how to “fix” boxing. Well, the first step is to stop tearing it from the inside.

Boxing companies will operate like boxing companies– generate revenue, take as little risk as possible and try to keep things “in-house” as much as possible. Anyone trying to tell you the opposite, that a company puts its competitors in a more difficult position or really wants to make big battles, cross-promoting more (or less) than it does. with other companies, either being stupid or making an agenda. Disrespect these people.

Everyone in sport needs to be equally accountable, across and at all levels (including the media). Fans were divided and lured into pointing fingers that allowed the bad behavior to be covered up. And if the media (or the semi-media that present themselves as media) can’t be relied on for balance and honest opinion, then fans need to work harder. to provide information for themselves.

Some of the people who say their nonsense online are just stupid, stupid people. However, some people think they are playing YOU with idiots and idiots. Either way, it’s a loss for the sport when things are always buried under such buzz-inducing negativity.
