All in all, Gervonta Davis wasn’t the most polite person when he walked into the room. Even as his fight day approached, the Baltimore native remained calm, cool, and collected while his opponents were vivacious and belligerent.

However, despite his casual demeanor, Davis and Rolando “Rolly” Romero almost suffered a blow, when the two faced off in Brooklyn, New York, during a recent press conference.

A topless Romero stepped right into Davis’ cup, further provoking the heavyweight tit-for-tat rider. Davis puffed his chest out, pointed his finger at Romero, and continued to scream at him, saying words like “I’m the one to show you,” “trash” and “you ab*tch” — among others. others.

For Davis, his emotional response was, in his mind, both essential and to prove a point. After years of trash talk on social media, Davis wanted to test Romero. While the former temporary title in the 135-pound weight class is back, Davis is flamboyant as he continues to use the word disparagement all the way.

Given the chance to look Romero in the eye, Davis believes his incoming opponent has shown weakness.

“It’s different when people are talking on Instagram or whatever, they’re talking to each other,” Davis told BoxingInsider.com. “I have seen him talk in interviews. Face to face, it’s different, it’s different. He is soft. ”

Davis had originally hoped to end his rivalry with Romero on December 5, 2021. Although both men signed on the dotted line, Romero was forced to withdraw from their competition and rehearse. focused on sexual assault allegations. Stepping up to Romero’s place was a gruff and rugged opponent, Isaac Cruz. Though Davis was going to win, Cruz pushed him like no other.

As Davis continued to exchange hooks with Cruz in the center of the ring, Romero scored the closing goal in the courtroom. The 26-year-old has since cleared his name of any wrongdoing months after he was charged.

Now, with a clean standings, Romero will try to extend his unbeaten record to 15-0 on May 28. After a lackluster performance against Jackson Marinez in August 2020, Romero has got two knockout wins in a row.

Although Davis was considered his toughest opponent, Romero showed arrogance when asked how he expected the match against Davis to go.

“I’m going to knock him out in the first round,” Romero told BoxingInsider.com. “He’s going to run into something.”
